Philip (Billy) Whitney

RIP Sir/teacher Bill from myself and my family. May you rest in peace.

Bill was a legend in his own lifetime, and it was always a pleasure to be around him. He loved going to work, was never in a bad mood and was the heart and soul of the CBS staffroom for many years.
Bill was as witty as they come and taught me many great sayings over the years, such as "You've a stomach like a tar barrel" or, when congratulating somebody who was just after getting engaged, "Shur you can't be happy all your life!"

It saddened my heart to learn of Billy's passing. His woodworking classes were a particular highlight of my time in Wexford CBS. Bill was the highlight of my time in the CBS. Rarely would you find a more gifted teacher, i remember many a time in the middle of a class he would regale us about one of his many trips to the Amazon where he wrestled an alligator to make a lovely pair of boots and wallet. Then without breaking a smile jump straight back to the subject. He was such a gentleman. Bill will be missed by all who knew him. My deepest condolences to his family

My deepest condolences to the Whitney family, Bill was the truest of gentlemen, who will be greatly missed.
My time at the CBS was highlighted by Bill, from telling us not to throw hammers, to the "soda pop" parties you would miss if you were absent for one day. Even after my time in school, Bill always made time whenever I met him, insisting that he would not answer to Mr Whitney anymore and to be called Bill whenever talking to him. He was truly one of a kind.

So sorry to hear of Billy's passing. It was such a pleasure to work with him in the CBS. He was a wonderful teacher who, through his easygoing relationship with his students, made the job of teaching look effortless and simple. Had the pleasure of having Mr. Whitney from 1st year to 3rd year in the CBS for Woodwork. Looking back I can honestly say he was my favourite teacher. He made every class interesting with lots of laughter and stories. Some true, some embellished to get the attention of the class, which he always had.
Thank you to the Whitney family for sharing him with the CBS Boker boys for so many years. He always spoke so fondly of his family.
His death has come as a shock to many in the CBS community.
He will be missed.
May his gentle soul rest in eternal peace.

Was really saddened to hear of Bill's passing. Was fortunate enough to have a Mr Whitney as a teacher in The Cbs and then priviliged enough to work with him for over 25 year until he retired in 2018 if im correct. A true gentleman and had a huge impact on me especially in my early years as caretaker in the school. Always up for the craic and one of the most likeable people you could meet. Thinking of Eithne, Stephen and all the family at this sad time. May your gentle soul rest in peace Bill.
