Philip was a good friend who had a powerful vision of life. I was lucky to work with him in the early 80s. He had the strength of character to follow his vision through to accomplishment, and did so with great confidence and good humour. May he be at peace.

My sincere condolences to Kay & all the Kelly family.

I had many memorable pots of tea with Philip over the years, he was always kind and helpful and so interesting to chat with, on any subject. He was inspirational and thought provoking about architecture and design. And such a fun character too, I remember meeting him just after he’d been to see the film called Babe in the cinema about a pig and his simultaneous laughter and tears, he told wonderful stories the special characteristics of pigs and about happy memories of life on the farm. A wonderful man. My thoughts are with you all at this time.

My condolence to the Kelly Family on the passing of Philip may he rest in peace
To Philip’s family and especially Caroline with whom I had most recent contact, my sincere condolences on learning of his passing. As well as marking Tom’s kindness to my late mother-in-law in Roslyn Grove, I wish to mention Philip’s sense of vision and, dare I say it, adventure, where property development opportunities arose. One of my fondest memories of Philip’s character is from 1979 when I opened a branch of estate agency Jackson-Stops &McCabe in Bray and Philip dropped by the office to welcome us to Bray and leaving us a cheque which he explained was simply to “ hansle the business”— what a lovely gesture?! In latter years he dropped in to meditate or pray from time to time at Kilbride church ( dedicated to St. Brigid) to meditate or pray, in whose churchyard my own parents chose to be buried; and it’s appropriate in so many ways because his and Kay’s home on Herbert Road was in former years the Rectory for Kilbride Parish. May Philip’s soul rest easy.
Deepest condolences to all the Kelly family specially Mick on the sad passing of your brother Philip. Had the pleasure of meeting Philip while he was on a staycation with Mick. What a beautiful voice he had and the stories he would tell. Remarkable man.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Always remember your Dad being the life and soul of many Kelly parties when I was a kid. Always had a great sense of fun and positivity. Sincere sympathy to Kay, his children and grandchildren. Also all members of the Kelly family on the sad passing of Philip. Some great memories growing up of visiting the Kelly family home in Clonmore where there was always singing and music. May Philip’s gentle soul now Rest in Peace.
Sincere sympathy to the Kelly family in their sorrow and loss of Phil. I have fond memories of him and his family of origin in Clonmore. I too was in Killesmeestia hall when he sang “Kiss me quick…….” . In my opinion, at the time, he was as good as Elvis. He was blessed with a wonderful singing voice and was a breath of fresh air. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
Part 2 of 2

Another aspect of Phil’s young life was his sense of fun and his innate ability to entertain. I fondly recall a concert in Killasmeestia Parish Hall where, as a mere sixteen-year-old, he was programmed to perform. The local Priest’s diligent efforts to ensure the girls did not sit on their fellows’ knees or anything of the sort, had yielded the result of a very sombre atmosphere pervading the occasion. That was until Phil entered the scene. He bounced onto the stage from the left-hand side, spinning in circles as he wound the microphone cable around his body, before bursting into song with a hit-tune from the era, “Kiss me quick, because I love you so…”. The Hall erupted into loud and sustained applause, quickly shattering the poor Priest’s carefully cultivated subdued environment.

Many years later and in declining health, I met Phil in a Kilkenny Hotel where, accompanied by the resident pianist, he held the entire Function Room enthralled with a mesmerising rendition of “Somewhere My Love”. It was simply remarkable.

Our Kilcoke branch of the family will be forever grateful to Phil for all the kindness, support and help he offered to our late sister Judy when, after her convent sojourn in Australia in the 1960s-70s, she took up a teaching post in Mount Anville, as she endeavoured to find her feet in a new way of life.

I offer my sincere sympathy to Phil’s immediate family and to his seven surviving brothers.

Many his noble soul rest in eternal peace
Remembering Phil Kelly

Part 1 of 2

I would like to add to my earlier expression of sympathy on the death of my cousin, Phil, and would like to shine a light on some aspects of his earlier life.

In addition to playing college hurling for Tipperary Schools at under-16 level, Phil had the unique distinction of playing under-18 minor for his native Laois for four consecutive years. The first of those years he played in goal while still a few months short of his fourteenth birthday, later moving out the field where he proved to be a very skilful, determined and goal-scoring forward.

The lure of the construction industry and the challenge of trying to get going led to him leaving home for further afield and the premature end of his hurling career. It was while working on one of those building jobs that he met the lovely Kay Corbett.

Early on after his move to Dublin, he won a House of the Year Award on a development out in Malahide in North County Dublin. He subsequently proceeded to acquire a beautiful property on the outskirts of Bray, where he was quick to recognise the quality and beauty of a house which would provide an outstanding home for the family. His crowning glory in construction terms was perhaps the beautiful Seven Oaks Development which he built in Purser’s Gardens, Rathmines and where he successfully indulged his talent for architectural detail and finish.
Sincere sympathy to the Kelly family on the death of Philip. I was very grateful for Philip’s help during election campaigns in the 80’s and 90’s.
Rest in peace Philip.

Sincere condolences to the Kelly family on the passing of Phil , fond memories of our good times around Errill and Garryduff in the late 50s and early 60s.
May Phil rest in eternal peace .
Our deepest sympathies to Kay, Noelle, Gloria, Andrew, Caroline and Philippa and also to all of Phil's brothers on his passing. Many of our memories are some way or other entwined with Cousin Phil. Growing up as kids in Rathdowney he was often our entertainer on a Saturday morning and the excitement that he could create was immeasurable! But we were also lucky enough to enjoy the company of a man whose building intellect was second to none. His views on construction were always a great topic of conversation when we met. At any family gathering over the years Phil's fantastic singing voice was always a pleasure to enjoy and I was lucky enough to have spent many an evening in Seven Oaks with Phil and my aunt and his dear cousin, Judy, singing through the evening with the climax usually being Phil's fantastic ability to yodel! What a loss he is! One of my last long conversations with Phil was just after our youngest son, Philip, was born and Phil wished to express thanks to us after he had heard that the little boy was named after him. Truly the pleasure and thanks were all ours to Phil. May he Rest in Peace.
