So very sorry to hear this, I worked with Phil at BA (starting when he was in Line Maintenance) and we kept close as he progressed at BA followed by Virgin and then to the USA.

His positive outlook blended by determination and strong leadership never faded and shows in his achievements.

Beyond that, he was a real friend whom I shall miss greatly.

Rest in peace, sincere condolences to Simone, the children and the family.
So tragic and taken too soon x Always the gentleman in my early PA days, always saying hello and not forgetting people as your career progresed. Bless you Phil and rest in peace 🙏 My thoughts are with your family at this sad time xx
Phil was one of the best leaders we had at VAA. He always had time for to say hello even if just walking past you hastily in a corridor. No superiority just real genuine friendliness that made you feel seen and that put you at ease if in a tricky meeting .Old school VAA leadership at its best . He was admired by all . Too young to go. my condolences
So very sad to hear that Phil has passed away. We worked together at Virgin and he was a great leader and colleague. I always had a lot of time for him. Taken too soon - a great loss to his family and friends.
So shocked to hear this sad news!
My thoughts and prayers are with Simone, kids and family.

We had kept in touch, and I remember the day way way back at LHR and BA, when we were both forcibly posted to yet another BA engineering section. I vividly recall when we were riveting up a repair together, when we both made the conscientious decision that " enough is enough".

We decided there and then, to get comitted on the vocational learning curve, and study for our licences, approvals and various management certification, picking up any extra and valuable experiences along the way.

Over the next few more days / weeks, we had already mapped out the goals, milestones and methods to "move on".

This last move Phil, is one journey, far far too soon.....

See you and your cheeky grin on the other side.
RIP buddy.
Sincere condolences on the loss of a good man and a people’s leader !
How sad to hear,my condolences to the family .I was just the canteen lady yet he always made me feel he had plenty of time to chat with me and such a laugh we had , he told me his early life and I was so impressed with how far he had come and yet still had both feet firmly on the ground ! An amazing man who will be greatly missed 💔

My most sincere condolences and best wishes go to Simone and to Phil’s family. I cannot begin to imagine the sense of loss you must all be feeling. I was greatly shocked and saddened to hear the news of Phil’s untimely passing: it was a pleasure to work in one of his teams at Virgin Atlantic. RIP Phil, you were a true leader and an inspiration to many of us at Virgin. Sincere condolences to the Maher family.
Such sad news. We had great times together when we started at BA in 1990. Having both joined from our respective military aviation backgrounds we formed a great friendship, both his humour and laughter will never be forgotten. RIP Phil.
As a fellow Virgin Atlantic employee I offer my sinerest condolences. It was an incredible family to be a part of because of people like Phil. I remember seeing his promotion email come across to the company. I admired him knowing that he started off in Engineering and then rose up the ranks to COO. I thought that was so cool. God Bless You all.
What devastating news which stopped me in my tracks. Phil was certainly an all round good guy. I appreciated how he told it like it was, his humility and willingness to learn on new topics, his passion for sustainability and how he helped me learn about the business as a consultant and when I joined the Virgin team. RIP Phil
Utterly speechless. A very great loss.
A man who was always willing to help, who was kind and gentle.
My thoughts are with all his family and friends.
Phil burst into my life in 2004. Such a shock to hear of his passing. My thoughts are with his whole family. Taken too soon my friend.
Very sad to hear, I have known Phil at Virgin, I was always pleased to chat with such clever and interesting man. RIP Phil.
A nice guy, gone too soon. When I was in Engineering Training, we had our differences, especially when I would challenge Sir Richard through his blog about green issues, but we understood each other.
I worked with Phil at Virgin Atlantic and he was a delight to work with, he had a natural way to put people at ease and make people feel so welcome, he was a really wonderful and inspiring leader.

My thoughts and condolences go out to all Phil's family and friends, he will be missed by so many 💔
Sincerest condolences to Phil’s family, very sorry to hear this news. I didn’t know Phil too well, but I have very fond memories of our conversations at work, albeit not working directly together.
I started working for Virgin Atlantic when I was 19 (2012) as a contact centre agent within the Cargo dept. I bumped into Phil a few times around The Office. I recognised he had an Irish accent immediately and we got chatting as I grew up in Dublin, just off the Wicklow mountains (Tallaght). Given Phil’s position at Virgin, and myself being at the start of my career, whenever we used to cross paths he always remember my name and asked if I’d been home. He always made those couple minutes to talk, given his busy schedule. I really enjoyed those conversations in passing and felt privileged to be even exchanging words in common.

Gone, but never to be forgotten dear Phil.

Sincere condolences to the Maher family, Phil was loved and admired by so many. May he now rest in peace.

Phil was such a force of energy and progress. With an eye for people and getting things done in an always positive fashion.

Wishing you the very best dealing with his loss.

My sincere condolences to all Phil’s family. Phil was extremely well respected. Always professional and extremely knowledgeable, he made everyone feel comfortable in his engineering world. He was able to see around corners to resolve problems or find solutions to business issues. He will be sadly missed by his many colleagues, friends and family. RIP Phil.
Shocking to read this. What a sad news.
Phil was such a great colleague to work with.
A true professional, straightforward and honest, interested, good sense of humor and a gentleman.
Rest In Peace Phil.
Phil was one of the good guys. An impressive background of where he started and how he navigated up the ranks, as they say.

He showed incredible empathy and support when one of my team was diagnosed with terminal cancer. He and his team were an extraordinary support.

Phil always showed up, contributed, had wise words. He was honest when he didn't know answers, and challenged when things didn't align. We had challenging moments to work through. I don't remember him ever being fazed.

He was a brilliant leader, role model, colleague and friend. RIP.
To Phil's family.... My sincere condolences.
Phil inspired me to become a better Manager and a wiser leader. He installed belief with calmness and I enjoyed my brief time working with him at Virgin Atlantic.
I only spoke the other day of what I learned from him.
I would have worked with him again if I had had the chance.
God bless.
Rest in peace Phil, thoughts and prayer with the family.
So very sad to hear of Phil’s passing - I worked with Phil directly at VAA for many years - he was inspiring challenging fun and very kind and caring - it was an honour to have him as a boss - RIP Phil xx
So sad to hear of Phil’s passing. I so enjoyed working with him. Many Ireland England rugby games when we were the few supporting the good guys. Really admired his ability and humility. Rest in peace Phil
May he rest in peace, sincere condolence to his family. Always remembered his smiling face around The Base...🙏
RIP Phil…shocking news and my deepest condolences to his family
Phil was my boss at Virgin for about ten years, during that time I think we saw more of each other than we did our wives. We fought, argued, drunk and laughed. He was a great man, without a doubt, I miss him because he was straight talking and fundamentally an honest and good man. Every decision he took was either to protect the business or his family, he cared about people and expected the best for them and from them. I don’t think a day goes by without me using one of his wise one liners to guide the younger generation or less experienced colleagues. Dave, change the man or change the man! Vino veritas Dave, Vino veritas.
On my last flight with Virgin before retiring, Phil happened to be in Upper Class going to his new role in L.A, serendipity perhaps, both of us now on pastures new. He was looking forward to the challenge and hoping to turn the start up into a successful enterprise. They picked the right guy.
Phil has had such a huge influence on hundreds of aspiring industry leaders, his mantra is simple, do the right thing. Remember his blush test?
He lives on in the behaviours and moral direction of those he influenced.
Rest in peace mate, you were one of a kind.
So sad. We worked together on numerous projects + initiatives. We had great conversations, lots of coffees and he always gave me words of wisdom throughout our time at VAA.
My condolences to his family, he is missed but not forgotten.
Rachel xx
So saddened to hear of Phil's passing. He was absolutely one of the good ones! A great leader, sponsor and all round good guy! We worked together on many a project, I remember him fondly. One great memory of us both is when we were in the flight deck (observing not flying :)) bringing the first A350 home. Continue to fly high Phil

Thoughts + condolences to the family
