Sincere condolences to Philip's family and close friends. Philip was a special person. His contribution to and support for the Irish film industry should never be overlooked. It was a pleasure to have known him.
Sincere condolences to the Molloy family. Philip was a truly decent man, with extraordinary patience for undisciplined young journalists full of notions. He was IMDB before IMDB existed — don't think I've ever met anyone with such a deep and effortless knowledge of film. RIP.
Philip was always cool under pressure even when Indo subs asked the awkward questions close to deadline. He encouraged young journalists and constantly strove to get the best version of the story. Deepest condolences to all his family.
Sincere condolences to Georgina, Liz and extended Molloy families on the death of Philip may he rest in peace.

I was very sorry to learn of Philip’s death; while it may have been a happy relief from his lengthy suffering, it is surely a sad loss to his family and his legion of friends and former colleagues.
Philip, Tony O’Brien (Barrack Street) and myself began our journalist journey at the same time in People Newspapers in the late 1960’s, all under the watchful gaze of the legendary and unique Eddie O’Keeffe. His love affair with the movies was a distinctive feature even then and he often passed on his copy of Films and Filming.
Sincere sympathy to his Wexford family (sisters Marjorie, Georgie and Rosarii, and brothers Jackie and Colm), to his wife and children, all his other relatives and a friends.
- Phil and Nuala Murphy, Piercestown

So sorry to hear of the untimely death of Philip.
When I heard the news a thousand memories came back to me; the old People Newspaper offices, the Abbey, Capitol and Cinema Palace, the Festival(s) Of Living Music, and all those nights upstairs over the pub on the Quay reliving the films of John Wayne, Strother Martin, Burt Lancaster and other creatures of the night until the wee small hours. Philip loved t6he Comancheros, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and Sweet Smell Of Success and he could quote them effortlessly. ( I still have in my possession Ian & Elizabeth Cameron's bood The Heavies, an old paperback he gave to me in 1971).
When it came to films and their makers Philip truly was the oracle. We'll not see his like again.
Condolences to all.
