Philip O'Brien

My dearest Uncle,

I couldn't let your condolence page close without telling you how much of a wonderful uncle you have been to me over the course of my life. In childhood, you were the funny, caring and extremely generous soul that showed time for everyone around them.

We often met out and about in Clondalkin over my late teen years having the fun and giggles chatting about what mischief was going on. You always cared. You always had time for me. Your dry wit was second to none. You could be within a room saying nothing yet be very much felt. I loved seeing you. I loved speaking with you.

Your mass was a fitting tribute and you were surrounded in love because we all love you dearly. I felt the love in that church and I hope you did too. I've been to see you a few times since and I feel you around me when I go to chat to you. Your legacy will forever remain within my beautiful cousins and in my memories held dear.

You're in the arms of Nana and Papa now, and even though I'm heartbroken you're gone, I feel peace knowing that in the words of your song,

"blue moon,
Now I'm no longer alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own".

You're in safe hands up there
Forever thankful for your presence in my life, forever loved ,

So sad to belatedly learn of Phil’s passing. We were great friends in Hong Kong (where I still reside) while Phil worked here. He is very fondly remembered by many old colleagues and friends. Sending condolences and sympathy to Valerie, and all the children. RIP Phil.

Sincerest condolences to the O’Brien family on the passing of Philip. He was always pleasant, friendly and engaging. We often spoke when he came into our father’s shop on St. Brigid’s Road. He had a lovely personality which shone through. Deepest sympathies from all of our family.

His humble nature and understanding of others was always obvious.
He was willing and available to help often with short notice given
We laughed and cried together and he never complained. Always very grateful for the friendships he held and so respectful to all who crossed his path
