My sincere condolences Louise and Susan, fond memories of your Mum, especially on my holidays from Naas, such a lady, so kind and welcoming. Thinking of you both.
My deepest sympathy to the O'Connor and Campbell families on the death of Phyl. May she rest in peace.
My sincere condolences to you Louise and your family on the passing of your mother. May she rest in peace.
Deepest Condolences on the passing of your mum, a lady and a great neighbour to my late Auntie Mary and Uncle Martin on the Ennis road - always so glamorous and a tight grip of the hand on the few occasions we met when on holidays to shannonville as a kid and later sadly only at funerals.
“Will you have a bun and tea? Mrs. Campbell would say. “No thanks, I’ve just eaten.”

No sooner had you said that than the linen, fine china, Demerara sugar and silverware would appear meticulously arranged on the table. Phyl wouldn’t have it any other way.

The scone, red cheddar, soup, bun and tea would be consumed without hesitation. “Not another morsel like please, I’ve had sufficient.”

Following from an invitation to stay for supper just a matter of hours later, entertainment would generally be provided by Bill’s wonderfully cynical commentary on religion, politics and everything in between, delivered in sync with the RTE news, and narrated usually incognito and whispered from behind the daily broadsheets. He would surface some time later, glasses resting on his nose, and kindly offer me a lift back to my equally luxurious student lodgings, driving me there in his blue Toyota Corolla.

Strangely though by the time I arrived home I would find two slices of brown bread and a slice of cheese neatly tucked into a serviette and wrapped in foil and cling film somewhere in my pockets. Who would have known it was exactly the right moment for a late snack?

To conclude this anecdote, as our lives move on and old memories make room for new ones, the warm memories of both Phyl and Bill will always remain fondly in mine.

Rest well Mrs. Campbell as you’re reunited with Bill and also with Mary Kavanagh.
