My deepest sympathies to the Murphy family. Pierce was a great teacher and a tremendous community man. From teaching us all first aid and maths at Thurles C.B.S, to always helping out at every school musical and sporting event. I have many fond memories of Pierce during my time at Thurles C.B.S. He was always a gentleman to meet and chat when visiting the school in later years. As a primary teacher myself now I am always reminded of Pierce when I teach maths in our school. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dilís.

It is with deep sadness that we learnt of the news of the sudden passing of Pierce.

Pierce was a devoted member of the Order of Malta serving for many years as a valued volunteer with the Cashel & Emly Lourdes Pilgrimage. His generosity, kindness, and quiet dedication to helping others will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Pierce was truly an out-and-out gentleman.

May he rest in peace, and may his wife Patsy, son Brian & his wife Tara, grandchildren, extended family, friends, and fellow volunteers find comfort at this sad time. May his gentle soul rest in peace 🙏

Uncle Pierce - it’s impossible to summarise a life lived with such dedication, humour, hard work, commitment and devilment (that twinkle when he got great joy out of rising us (his nieces and nephews)). You were loved by all and grief is the unbearable price of that love. The outpouring of support, comments and the impact you had on those within your community, is a testament to the person that you were. They say that people remember not what you did, but how you made them feel - and from reading the comments from past pupils, colleagues, friends and family, your impact was huge.
