PJ, my sincere and heartfelt condolences to your family. I saw this notice and was shocked, you should have lived to a hundred. They got a gem when they recruited you. You were truly made of ‘the right stuff’.
A brave-heart, a brave warrior, marrying those qualities of integrity, loyalty, and honesty, with sense of duty, and fair play. A leader by example, you were a role model for both young and old.
That consistency of character you carried with you always was reflected in your sports and personal life as the many testimonies below so clearly show.
You also had the uncanny knack of lifting a persons day, be it through that engaging smile, a kind word or deed, a reflective thought or that way of listening you had, that knowing nod, reassuring and supportive. We would all have had you stay dear PJ. This world was a better place with you in it, and why there is so much sorrow knowing you are no longer.
Mayo and your family, near and wide, produced a jewel of rare quality, a brave and honourable gentleman, much loved and valued. They have good reason to be proud.
Rest in peace PJ, dear colleague, dear friend.
