P.J. Kelly

I would like to offer my sincere condolences to Suzanne, John, Emer, Alan & Sheila in addition to his 4 sisters and cousins on the recent death of PJ. He was first and foremost a devoted family man – husband, father, brother and cousin. Family meant everything to him and rightly so. He expressed his outstanding virtues in his own quiet & unassuming manner.
It is true to say that PJ’s first love was horseracing. He loved the thrills and spills, the roar of the crowd and the general excitement of the occasion. He loved meeting people and discussing matters afterwards with his customers in the bar. He was a regular racegoer with ‘Jenny Pitman’ as he affectionately used to refer to Suzanne as.
In all my dealings with PJ – I can honestly state that we never once had words. He never ever queried anything. He left everything entirely up to me. I would bring down a spreadsheet showing the costs of everything. His response was that there was no need for that – ‘How much do I owe you’ . That response summed him up.
PJ had that rare ability to accept victory and defeat in pretty much the same level headed manner. Sure, he would be pleased if things worked out – the quiet satisfaction of a job well done.
It was an absolute privilege have known and dealt with PJ. He was quite simply one in a million. RIP PJ. Rest assured – you will always be fondly remembered.
