I was sorry to hear of P.J.s passing.

I was really lucky to have been employed by PJ and Margaret all those years ago.
PJ was always encouraging and really wanted people to succeed.
He had a way of making people feel special the twinkle in his eye was delivered to customers and staff always welcoming and always wishing for the best for people.
I have quoted him over the years to family and our team.
Calling in over the years at various times P. J. was always interested and interesting.
His vision and dedication to the Hole in the wall has made it world famous.

May he rest in peace

PJ, Margaret and my late parents were good friends during their time in Cavan and he loved to share those memories any time we would meet. I was fortunate to work for a short time for him after leaving school and during that time I like so many others benefitted from his wisdom and generosity. May he rest in peace.

Condolences to you Martin and extended family on the passing of your dad. My first job was in the reading room of the Irish Independent back in 1968. I was P J copy reader.A lovely man. RIP .

PJ was a true legend, I knew him from childhood, was always warmly welcomed into the house and in latter years on visits back to Dublin, into the beautiful HIW pub restaurant. Of which he was so proud and fully enjoyed, even in recent years (the wine bar!). He will be missed, and we send love and support to the family.

PJ and the late Margaret were so kind, generous and helpful to my sister, Yvonne, and to me when we were students at UCD many years ago. Their home on the Navan Rd was our home away from our Omagh, Co. Tyrone home. Our visits with the McCaffreys were enjoyable and memorable, especially Margaret's delicious home cooking and PJ's wonderful and entertaining stories --all of that, plus family warmth and sound advice to young undergraduates. And, in later years, when we visited the Hole in the Wall -- the warm welcome was always there, and PJs stories were even better! He will be sorely missed and we are better off for having known him. In the words of this touching proverb:
"Say not in grief that he is no more but live in thankfulness that he was."
