So sorry to hear of PJ's passing. I started out as a cub reporter in Athlone over 20 years ago with the Westmeath Independent and Athlone Topic. PJ was so supportive and helpful. We travelled together to report on matches around the country. I have wonderful memories of good times and great chats. PJ was a fountain of knowledge. May he rest in peace.

Sorry to hear of Poncho's passing. So many good stories over the years in the back of Sean's bar and back in Connolly st. where one night we shared a chinese meal and a bottle of good whiskey. He will be missed R.I.P. Poncho.

Deepest sympathy to Poncho's relatives and friends. He was a great neighbour to all of us at Athlone Garda Station and a regular visitor there (camera at the ready). A very friendly, witty, sociable, person. He was in his element with an audience. Great memories of seeing the camera in action with the glass of "water" to hand at the same time. Digital cameras didn't exist for most of his career and when they arrived, were viewed with suspicion at first. Poncho's photographs were always great. It was our pleasure to have known and shared friendship with him. Another Legend gone to God. Sleep easy our friend.

Sincere and deepest sympathy to PJ's relatives and Friends and indeed there were many on a friendship tree that never stopped to grow, and to the Athlone community on the loss of one of their nearest and dearest. PJ Murray was a great and proud Athlone man and a pillar of his professional world for a life time and while a true Connaught man was always proud of his upbringing with his relatives in Coosan point. PJ had a remarkable capacity to make long and lasting friendships and remember everyone by their first name, and indeed on the odd occasion he didn't remember , you would be greeted with a humorous remark. I have known Poncho for a lifetime and he was a great friend and mentor of the Athlone Sub - Aqua club through his work and on a personal and voluntary basis basis during the upgrade and development of the club's equipment and search and recovery activities in Athlone and throughout the midlands. PJ was on a first name contact with the many clubs , The Garda and Navy diving units that came to Athlone during the many river tragedies on the river in the70's,80's 90's.. So sad to hear of PJ's death RIP. Deepest Sympathy to Iris and PJ's extended family and friends. He was a great friend for over 50 years since I worked with him and John Casey in their Photographic Studio. He was a brilliant photographer who loved his work. Such a nice, caring, generous, funny and witty person. He was a regular customer in the Bonnie Bouche where he loved to have lunch or a cup of coffee and a chat with his many friends there.
