We both studied with Pól in Trinity, while he and I lived together in Galway. He was always very welcoming, making everyone feel at home and helping whenever he could. He met everyone with a genuine and heartwarming smile. He is sorely missed and our deepest sympathies with his family.

I was a homesick, insecure 23 year old when I arrived in Korea over ten years ago and Pól was always there to help me, offer advice and take me under his wing. The CV template I still use today was something that Pól helped me with. Wouldn't have lasted half as long as I did in Korea without his help.

Always looked up to him and Korea was a much sadder place when he left there to go to Thailand.

His loss will be felt keenly in Gweedore and indeed much further afield from the countless lives he enriched during his much too short time with us.
