I am so sorry to hear the very sad news of the passing of Prof. Doug Veale. I have been a patient of his for the last 19 years and could not have got through my illness without his support, kindness and positive approach. I will always be so grateful to him. May he rest in peace.
Sincere sympathy to his Mum, Wife and all the Family.
I am so sad to read this. Prof Veale was my Mum’s (Carmel) rheumatologist for years and we could not have asked for a kinder, more caring man. He took time with his patients and advocated for the best of treatment. He left such a lasting impression on us. The person was at the heart of all he did, and that is not so common these days. My sincere condolences to all who knew and loved him.
I was so sorry to hear of Professor Veale’s death. He was my rheumatologist for many years and he looked after me so well on a professional level. But I also felt he was my friend who took great joy when I felt better. We became grandparents around the same time and we both took great joy in this new phase of our lives. I’m sorry he didn’t get to spend more time with his little granddaughter.
Condolences to all the family on your loss.
My sympathies are with all his family. He was an Excellent, caring doctor. Research and evidence-based practice were the cornerstones of his medical pharma interventions.
Former patient
I am so sorry to hear about Prof. He showed me nothing but kindness and friendship since we met when I was a scared 17 year old in Beaumont Hospital. A shining example to us all. to his family and friend I am so sorry for your great loss. May he rest in peace.
Deepest sympathies to Prof Veale's family and family and friends. Thank you for your kindness.
Our sincere condolences to Ursula, Hannah, James & all family & friends of Doug on his recent passing. I first met Doug as a fellow parent 'minding' 48 Gonzaga boys (including James & our son Ruairi) as we walked the Camino in 2015. I really enjoyed his company, his humour and his great stories - he really helped to keep our spirits high as we got blister after blister.
Myself & Brid met Doug just a few months ago walking around Deerpark and despite his illness, he was still smiling, laughing and talking about his beloved Ursula & his kids. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
Was very sorry to hear of Professor Veale’s passing. Heartfelt sympathy and condolences to all his family and friends. As a patient of his, I was always impressed by his professionalism, knowledge, good humour and wonderful optimistic nature. I hope fond memories of the man he was, will carry his loved ones through the darker days.

Gone too soon.
Rest In Peace.
My sincere condolences to Ursula, Hannah, James & all family & friends of Doug on his recent passing. I first met Doug when Hannah was in Junior Infants & every morning when dropping Hannah into the classroom he made it his business to go out of his way to wish me a Good Morning with a warm smile on his face.
I bumped into Doug only a few years ago & he spent 15minutes filling me in on what James & Hannah were doing. I could sense he was immensely proud of you both as he talked about your achievements with real pride & affection.
Treasure all those happy times together to help you through the months ahead…
May Doug Rest in Peace.
So sorry to hear this just now. Douglas was a great doctor (and friend) to my wife Anne-Marie for many years and we will miss him. He will be remembered as a great Doctor, friend, and great man. RIP. 💔💔
Dear Ursula, my deepest sympathy to you and all the family on the heart-breaking loss of Doug. In St Vincent’s Hospital I always found him to be a true gentleman, with a quick and ready smile. He was taken far too soon. May the love you share, and the wider family, carry you through this very difficult time.
I was lucky to be a patient of Prof. Doug Veale for about 20 years. A beautiful kind thoughtful and caring person. He was a wonderful doctor who helped me manage my condition and introduced me to all the advances in medicine. He constantly had an uplifting and positive manner and was extremely empathetic and extremely generous with his time.

My sympathies are with all his family.

He was kind and conscientious. I will miss his lovely smile. God Bless him and may he rest in peace. May the Holy Sperit strengthen you at this sad time.
Sincerest condolences - Doug was so greatly admired and respected by all his colleagues at UCD Conway. His ‘infectious positivity’ inspired so many.
Sincere condolences to Ursula and family. Doug was a great colleague over the years and it was a privilege to work with him, particularly in the early days of anti TNF trials. He was always kind and generous with his time, to everyone. Rest in Peace Doug
I had the privilege to work with Doug over 2 decades of medical education in rheumatology. As anti TNF products and then JAKi were developed- especially in psoriatic arthritis- his knowledge, insights and guidance were invaluable.

But much more that that he became a friend, I learned about the man behind the scientist. We had many wide ranging conversations but never a cross word. I always felt a mutual respect for our very different skills.

But we were both most importantly family men and had the shared value of Leinster families. His immense love for his family, his pride in their achievements was clear. His interest in mine always there.

Thank you Doug. Life is so much better when we have challenge and friendship.
Dear Ursula and family, my deepest sympathy for the loss of Doug. He was a very talented man, I was privileged to have had him as a great mentor and my boss. He will be hugely missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.

Sincere condolences Ursula, Doug was such a fantastic colleague when we were NCHDs in Beaumont & Vincent’s. Super doctor and great fun. He has departed far too soon and his loss to you and his family is immeasurable.
Rest in peace
I was saddened to hear of Doug's death.
I first became acquainted with Doug as a student and I had the privilege of guiding him through his trainee days as a young doctor. It was evident even then that he would achieve high academic status. Indeed, he went on to become a leading figure in university life and we became close colleagues and friends. His research contributions to rheumatology, which will influence the practice of the speciality for many years, bear testimony to his scientific brilliance. I valued his friendship highly - his quiet humour and the wisdom of his scientific deliberations will endure as fond memories of a lovable person.
I offer my sincerest condolences to Ursula and all the family.
