Prof. Nap KEELING

We were away in December and only recently learnt of the sad passing of Nap. We have many fond memories of Nap and the medical Keeling family going back to early years, and our heartfelt condolences go out to Par and Frank and the family.

I was away at the time and so sad to hear of Nap's passing. As many have said he was exceptional, a giant, full of life and energy even when he wasn't well. For many years in the 80's and 90's, I met him for an hour or two after work an few times a month and we plotted and planned on how to improve St James's, Trinity, and the Universe and some of it came to pass. He was a force of nature, a wonderful physician. It is so difficult to believe he is gone. RIP.

Dear Roisin,
Having spent 10 years working alongside you and Nap as his PA, it is with deepest sympathy that I offer my heartfelt condolences. Nap was an exceptional physician with a wonderfully quirky personality that I truly admired. In the hospital, he was strong, determined, and businesslike, yet at home I saw the gentle giant within.
I will never forget how, whenever we worked at your home, the first thing he would do was come in and kiss you hello. That simple gesture spoke volumes about the love you shared. I have such fond memories of Nap, of you, of his children, and of your beautiful home.
Working with Nap gave me the courage to pursue anything in my career, and for that I am eternally grateful. Sending you strength and love during this difficult time, Roisin. May he rest in peace.

Nap was a gentleman. In recent years, I've run into him often in Donnybrook. He always had an interest in how things were with the Duffy family, asked after my folks, and always with a warm smile and a kind word. He was a lovely man and I know you will miss him enormously. Sending you love in this most difficult time.

It is a very sad day for me and my wife Milithra. Professor Keeling was one of our teachers/supervisors. A dedicated clinician and a hard worker who helped and guided many junior doctors.

I am saddened to learn of Nap’s passing and offer my condolences to his wife, Roisín and all of Nap’s family, especially to Parnell. I hadn’t met Nap for many years but always remember him cheerfully from when we commenced our undergrad years in RCSI and started our careers in Jervis St. Hospital.

It is with deep sorrow that I read today of Nap's Passing.
My deepest , sincerest and heartfelt condolences to you, his beloved wife Roisin his children and all the Keeling extension family at this very sad and difficult time.
I did not know Nap as well as I knew you. His hospital was out side my GP catchment area. However he did take care of a number of my patients over the years. And I was privileged to attend his lectures at Medical Conferences from time to time. He took care of his patients with kindness and empathy and displayed a skill and knowledge that was unique.
The loss of your dear brother will leave a void in your lives that can never be filled. However I am certain that you have many amazing happy memories. I'm sure that those memories will be a comfort to you and over time will ease the pain of your loss.
His was a life well lived.

Nap was indivisible, one got all of him, always, and in everything.
His clarity left no shadows, no room for misunderstanding, no hidden meanings.
And he was usually right.
He did every thing he could for everyone, his patients, first and foremost, his colleagues, his hospital, his university, his friends and his enemies! His ability was phenomenal and his generosity in deploying it was awe inspiring. Nap was loved and his absence will be painful. His contribution to St James’ development was unsurpassed in difficult times.
…and to me his friendship and loyalty were invaluable.
He was unique. May he rest in peace.

Sincere condolences. I recall Nap’s kindness to me , some years ago, in explaining the intricacies of a particular surgical procedure that I was investigating for a case I was then handling. He entertained me royally in your beautiful home and indeed offered that I could attend his surgical list the following day to witness a real live example of the procedure in question . He was a lovely man and no doubt he will be greatly missed by you all .

You tried to go too early, but it wasn’t your time then. This time, whilst painful for your family, it is indeed time to go and shake up Heaven.

I well remember you greeting me on my arrival in SJH and advising me how to set up practice and how to work within the system. You were personally very supportive of my efforts.

Your example to others was enormous, as was your impact, from an academic and an organisational point of view.

There will be many more tributes from those who came under your professional influence.

Dear Mrs Keeling and family,
I was very sorry to hear that Nap had died. He was the first person who welcomed me to the staff of St James's Hospital (I only had 2 sessions there). Although our paths did not cross that much I enjoyed our occasional interactions. His work ethic was phenomenal. I am afraid I won't be able to go to the funeral as my daughter is booked for a Caesarean and the dutiful grandparents are baby sitting. I will be thinking of you and him. May he rest in peace.
