My deepest sympathy to Mark C and the Cunningham family on the recent passing of Prof C. I had the privilege of being a student of the MDP, UCD Smurfit School, Carysfort Ave in the early 90's. Prof C was a visionary business educator. Those fortunate enough to avail of his teachings will be forever grateful.
— John Philpott
Tony Cummingham was one of the true gentlemen. Always there to help me as a student taking my Masters Degree in Marketing back in 1982 at UCD. He was kind, considerate and always supportive-even when, particularly when-I made mistakes, and there were plenty of those. He and his family are in my thoughts.
— John Sisk
So sad at the loss of a wonderful colleague
Requiescat

I was a student of Tony and a colleague in Smurfit GBS, UCD. He made a significant positive impact on the lives of students and we were all the better for knowing him. May he rest in peace and his family are in my prayers.

When I was a student in 'Commerce' as it was then, now it's called 'Business Studies', the Professors were Brian Hillery, Enda Hession, Brendan Walsh, James Crowley, Aidan Kelly, Philip Bourke and Tony Cunningham. Nearly all passed on now, but they 'were' The Faculty of Commerce, UCD. Happy student Days!
Donation made to Alzheimers Research.

My deepest condolences to Tony's family on his passing. He was an inspirational teacher when I was a UCD student in the late 70's and early 80's. His influence, and his personal support through the innovative undergraduate and postgraduate work experience programmes he created were instrumental in shaping what has become a deeply satisfying career for me, as I approach retirement. I am forever grateful for the direction he gave me, always delivered with his characteristic charm and thoughtfulness. May he rest in peace
— Philip Kerney
Condolences to his family. Alzheimers is such a horrible disease.
— Mary Guinan (A neighbour from Waterford.)
Deepest sympathies to Maeve and family on the very sad passing of Tony.
‘Prof’ was a brilliant academic and passionate about Action Learning as an education method - the foundation of the Marketing Development Programme (MDP) at UCD which he founded. As a young graduate in the 90’s I was lucky enough to get a place on that programme and vividly remember that first inspiring address from Tony to us new entrants. When I later managed the MDP for a number of years his guidance and counsel were invaluable to me.
Tony’s positive impact on the personal and professional development of so many over numerous decades is a wonderful legacy of a great man. May he rest in peace.
— Conor McKenna
Rest In Peace, a gentleman who helped me greatly, safe in the arms of Jesus
— James (a past pupil)

Tony went to primary school with my late father Tom here in Co. Waterford . He often spoke about the Cunninghams as dad was an only child and the Cunninghams were 6 children so Dad spent a lot of time playing with them although they were of varying ages with one of Tony's sisters being 10 years older than him.

The last time Dad met Tony he was very distressed at how Tony was due to the alzheimers. So very sad & cruel a disease.

Condolences to the family.
— Yvonne Grey

Tony or the Prof. to all who knew him, gave me my first big breaks in both helping get into his Masters program after term had begun and then getting me a scholarship to the States. They are kindnesses I have never forgotten and the basis of a life long friendship with him and Maeve which led to so many cosy chats in their living room and at various events over the years. He leaves a legacy of kindness, wisdom and unwavering support to so many who were lucky to know him and Jeannette and I wish to extend our heartfelt condolences to his loving lifelong companion Maeve, Mark, Maeve and their families. May he Rest in Peace, Fergal & Jeannette

Goodness, passing of a gentle legend, gentleman, visionary, friend and as is written here, humble ground breaker. I’m not sure Daddy could have held Tony in higher regard nor Mummy felt safer in Tony and Maeve’s embrace. Certainly love poured out of their home, partnership, pride in kids and integrity and warmth came with every meeting. To be in Tony’s company was to feel special just for being. And for what he contributed to generations of Irish leaders is incalculable. Thank you for speaking at Daddy’s funeral and for both your friendships with Mummy. Much love, Daniel, Sarah and Patrick Moran

Tony and I worked together in UCD. He interviewed me for my post! His very long battle with Alzheimer's disease was a difficult struggle for him for so many years. It really was 'the long goodbye' for Tony. The last time we met he couldn't even remember my name. I was so upset to see his decline. Condolences to Maeve and family.
