My deepest sympathies to you and your family. Yuri was an active member on the Editorial Board of our journal, Precision Nanomedicine, and a good personal friend from CLINAM meetings, always ready to talk and ready to smile. I knew about his illness, and we kept in contact via emails. Even after his surgery, Yuri continued working on manuscripts and provided suggestions to better others' publications.
The world lost a great man in him, but his work and contribution to science will live on.
Rest in peace, my friend.

Our deepest heartfelt condolences to Irina and Liza . Yuri took our daughter Inés under his wing as a young intern in The Trinity Translational center and inspired her to leave Madrid to follow her vocation and to study Bio Medical Sciences at Trinity. He was a man who appreciated beauty in nature and was uplifted by simple things like the blossoming of spring flowers. He is forever in our hearts. Our prayers are with you now Irina and Liza in your time of grief. We will always remember him when the spring flowers bloom. Turlough, Ana and Inés.

My deepest sympathies to Irina and Liza - you have a very heavy burden to bear - may you find comfort in your memories of Yuri and strength in one another and your friends and family.

Annablinova10@gmail.com
— Anna Blinova

I send my deepest condolences to Yuri’s family. I am so saddened to hear of his passing. I worked alongside Yuri for 11 years. He was so easy to work with and just knew how to communicate with people. He spoke with great wisdom and intelligence with the perfect calming tone. He welcomed colleagues and students whenever they needed guidance and support. He had a special knack with words and helping people. Each year on the student’s feedback reports they wrote that his lectures were very interesting, entertaining and that he gave them endless support. Before exams he would go the extra mile and book extra sessions with the students to go over everything to make sure they felt confident, strong and ready. He wasn’t just a colleague but a great role model and a great leader. I met Liza and Mikhail when they came to the office from time to time and Yuri would light up as he was so proud to have them with him and to show them what he was up to. Yuri didn’t do a huge amount of chit chat but when he did share a story or tale it was always very funny, interesting or would lead to a great discussion. When I was going through a hard time he sent me a picture of his little bull dog sitting in the sun, looking absolutely chilled and said “life will be okay” knowing it would cheer me up. The world is a much better place that you were in it. Yuri I will never forget you. Thank you for your support and guidance over the years. You will be dearly missed but never forgotten. Rest in Peace.
— Greta Kerins

It is so sad to hear of Yuri's passing. I met him first in Moscow in midwinter during perestroika when he met me at the airport and accompanied me into the city and entertained me with his wonderful sense of humour. It was a memorable time historically and it was extraordinary to have Yuri as my guide both at the Institute of Immunology and outside to Zagorsk, the Orthodox monastery and later in our escapades with a samovar. Later, we were privileged that he came to work in Trinity College Dublin and brought all of his scientific innovation to bear in producing answers to difficult questions and inspiring others to do the same. He was a wonderful scientist and teacher but most importantly a wonderful man and a very dear friend. We will not see his like again. Our deepest sympathy to Irina and Lisa. RIP Yuri from Dermot, Jean, Clara and Sean
