He was patient, incredibly knowledgeable and had a remarkable way of explaining things in a simple way. A gentleman and was a pleasure to be around. May you get comfort in all the wonderful memories. As one of those who would have known Ray from work I was shocked at the news of his untimely death. I remember Ray from College in the late seventies and, as so many others have attested, he was always a gentleman through and through. In his work he was universally respected, was a consummate professional and so giving of his time to colleagues. My sincere condolences to his wife, family and all who are mourning his loss. I have struggled to put my feelings into words over the last few days, because words fail to convey what Ray meant to anybody who has had the honour to work alongside him in the National Environmental Health Service. I would think that there isn't an Environmental Health professional in the country who hasn't heard the name of Ray McLoughlin

Ray was a quietly spoken, wonderfully kind man, an extremely patient mentor/ teacher to all, and an incredibly supportive colleague. Nothing was too much, he took care to treat everyone with kindness and respect, and he gave the job 100%
There has never been and will never be another in our profession like him

His dedication to his family was equally strong and anyone who spoke with him for long enough, heard about his ladies. He was fiercely proud of his daughters and the life he and Martina carved out for themselves. It was evident from the way he spoke that they were a wonderful match and still very much in love and unified after 40+ years of marriage

Condolences to the wider McLoughlin family, his mum, siblings, nieces nephews and also the Tobin family and our other colleague his niece Liz who has no doubt followed in his wise footsteps.

I am heartbroken for you all that his well-deserved retirement days have been robbed. Hold tight to the wonderful memories you shared as a family and they will help in the days/ weeks ahead. May he rest in eternal peace
