He was so generous with his time, expertise and support to environmental health education nationally and internationally. He always had a smile and had a warm hearted nature.
I was saddened to hear of Ray's sudden passing on return from leave. I had the pleasure of meeting and working alongside Ray during my short tenure at FSAI on exchange from the FSA in England. As others have said, Ray was such a warm and welcoming person, who lit up the room and eagerly shared his love and knowledge of all things food (and more)! I have and always will remember him fondly. My thoughts are with you all at this time of loss.

I had the pleasure to work with Ray for several years at FSAI where he was a wonderful inspiration. We had a shared love for all things aviation related. Ray will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Raymond has left us. But his legacy will continue to inspire us.

Dear Ellard family,
It was with deep sorrow that we were informed that Raymond Ellard has passed away.

Personally, I worked closely together with Raymond for several years while he was hon. Secretary for the International Federation of Environmental Health. Raymond was a true friend, having a high insight on all aspects of Environmental Health, and he had an international outlook.

Raymond was a person of great integrity, professionalism and at the same time had a great heart in order to assist others that showed interest in advancing Environmental Health on all its parameters.

For the same reasons Raymond Ellard was awarded the most prestigious IFEH award in 2012 - The IFEH Eric Foskett Award.

For many years – both before and after his term as IFEH hon Secretary – Ray was a steady contact point for many of us.

I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to you in this difficult time.

This is on behalf of the Danish Organisation – EnviNa Denmark and on behalf of the IFEH Europe Group ( EFEH ) – for which I am the chairman.

Hopefully our testimony of the life of Raymond and what he has achieved will give you a little comfort in your time of mourning.

Henning Hansen, Chair IFEH Europe, EnviNa Denmark

A colleague is leaving, but his impact and friendship will remain in our hearts

Dear Ellard family,

with deep sorrow we received the news of the passing of Raymond Ellard, the former director of the Irish Food Authority and former honorary secretary of IFEH.

We are losing not only a highly esteemed colleague, but also a personality who shaped food safety in Ireland, the EFEH, IFEH, and far beyond with great expertise, integrity, vision, and humor. His commitment to food safety, his tireless effort for consumer protection, and his always open, collegial approach have set standards that will remain a model for all of us.

Many of us had the privilege to know him over the years at international meetings as a valued conversational partner, advisor, and a kind person. His work will live on in our shared efforts, and the memory of him will accompany us.

We would like to express our heartfelt condolences to you in this difficult time. May the certainty that he has left his mark in Europe and in the hearts of his colleagues provide you with comfort.

With silent sympathy.
