Along the pathway of life, whether it be long or short, there are those with whom you share a special friendship for various reasons. For a stretch of that pathway, I was privileged to share the friendship of Ray Newman. Both of us worked in "The Factory" in Dunleer but, in different departments. It was when both of us later went on to work in W&C McDonnells in Drogheda on 'A' Shift, that we came to know each other well. We even partnered each other in the 2nd row on the rugby field, when we played for McDonnells Rugby team in the Factory League, something that he often recanted, among friends, with great satisfaction.
The times I shared with Ray as a work colleague, rugby player, sharing in a sing song or just meeting him at a GAA game were filled with genuine friendliness and always enjoyed.
I offer my deepest sympathy to the immediate and extended members of the Newman family on Ray's sad passing.
