Raymond (Ray) Clerkin

I offer Michael and the rest of the Clerkin family my most sincere condolences upon the recent passing of Ray. Ray was liked and respected by all of the taxi driving community in the Stillorgan/Kilmacud area and by his many customers too. I am sorry that I couldn’t make the funeral because I didn’t know about his passing in time. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him in the locality of the village.

I have fabulous teenage memories of great times with Ray. The highlights being the craic that we had in the ‘shed’ in the Clerkins back garden…. manmade by Ray and Robbo! The luxury of the ceiling to ceiling carpeting, the disco ball, the great tunes, the breakfasts made on gas burner and the absolute fun of it all. Treasured memories. Ray was always good humoured, great fun and kind. How sad that he has passed within a month of Robbo. Great friends, reunited again no doubt.

This is such sad news.
I have great memories of good times spent in Ray’s company when he worked on the road with us in the early days of my career.
He even drove me to the BBC studios for my first appearance on Top Of The Pops in September 1992.
There was always a laugh when Ray was around.
