We often saw Ray out running on our way to work and saw him working in his beautiful garden on our way home. I'm sure Ray is checking out new routes in heaven and keeping the gardens there beautiful. Ray was a big part of my life as he coached me for over 10 years in race walking from the end of primary school until my final year of college. Without Ray, I would not have achieved what I did in athletics and the emphasis he placed on hard work, discipline and tenacity has helped to shape my outlook on many aspects of life. RIP Ray.

I must tell you a story of bumping into Raymond when I lived in a village in Wexford, called Camolin. Our house was on the main road and whenever there was an event passing myself and the children would run out to the front garden and wave at everyone. One day there was a road race and to my surprise I spotted Raymond and he copped me too. We had a quick chat & said how lovely it was to see someone from home :-)
Even though perhaps 40 years had passed since our schooldays in the old Calry School, we never forget a face do we, even though the years had weathered us both a bit.
