Raymond (Ray) O’Baoill

I was really shocked and saddened to learn of Raymond’s death. He was an absolute gentleman, devoid of malice. He was one of the stalwarts of the Humbert Summer School in Ballina, and we had many a great conversation. His kindness and his sense of humour always shone through, and people liked to be in his company. He was a great gaeilgeoir but always tolerant of those deficient in the ‘cúpla focal’. Ray a wonderful man who I was happy to call a dear friend.

A man who always found time to chat and to offer kind words when needed.

A true gentleman.

So very sad to hear the news of his passing.

Sincere sympathy to Rays' and extended O Boyle family. I met him in Enniscrone a week before his death,he was friendly and great company. Died far too young, had a great love for Irish and was friend of late Michel O Muircheartaigh.

I was very sorry to hear of Ray’s sudden passing. He was a real character and great company ‘as Gaeilge agus as bearla’. Many’s the great times and craic we had together in our student days in the 70s.

I frequently remember Ray with fondness, particularly when we shared a basement flat on Baggot Street back in '77-'78. A big heart with a great sense of humour. Life took us in different directions, but we re-established contact just last year, and I enjoyed our conversations. I was planning to contact him during my next trip to Ireland.

Ray and myself had been friends for many years, especially when he lived in Celbridge. We drifted apart quite some time ago but a few years ago he spotted me on Facebook and we rekindled our friendship. I was deeply shocked to hear he had passed away so suddenly. He was quite a character and he will be sadly missed by many. My deepest and sincere condolences to all the family.
