Renée was a force. I wish that more people knew about what Renée and the other women at Aer Lingus did for gender equality in Ireland. I loved hearing her stories about how she fought for workers’ rights for women alongside her colleagues at Aer Lingus. The image of these young women taking on the powers that be, to press for change, will always stay with us. The Aer Lingus women set precedence with that legal battle, a legacy that Irish women of today still benefit from and will continue to benefit from forevermore.

Renée was kind, thoughtful, well-travelled and ahead of her time. There was a youthful energy about Renée, a strength and a power to be admired. We loved hearing about how she and her late husband travelled all around the world. She was an impressive person. Her reviews of restaurants were always a joy to hear. She must have inherited her French father’s gift with food. She was an excellent critic, Leo and I would always know that if a restaurant was recommended by Renée, it must be good.

Renée spoke of her late husband Bernie within minutes of us first meeting her. She spoke of him with such love and fondness it felt as though, in some ways, she kept him alive. Renée spoke with such love and pride about her daughters and grandchildren. I think Renée leaves behind her a proud legacy, and the passion and the love that she and Bernie poured into their lives will echo on and on.

Our condolences.
