Sincere condolences to the family of Fr Brendan Dunning may he rest in peace.
Fr. Dunning was a man of many parts, a man of all seasons.
There was never a dull moment with him.
As our School Chaplain in St. Thomas Aquinas College, Akure he ingrained us all with prayers. As our sports master, to him wining was the goal, losing was just another way of learning how not to do it.
Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace, Amen.

I had quite a few personal and special moments with Father Dunning of which I have vivid memories that I cherish very dearly and will keep close to my heart for as long as I live; the most dominant of which pertains to him teaching me how to pronounce the word “clairvoyance” which I distinctly struggled with as I read from the Ngugi Wa Thiong’o’s “Weep Not, Child” in his literature class, I believe in either 3K or 4F!
…and there are a few general ones which are nonetheless just as exciting; what about his prescription glasses which, with a flip of some shaded lens, can also double as sunglasses in an instant! He always wore appropriate attire, was graceful in character, jovial in a good natured manner and generally walked like a sprinting athlete!
I think we (especially those of us that he taught) were all very lucky to have had Father Dunning in our lives and as much as he will be missed by us all, he will remain with us all, every day, as long as we can remember because of his unique mentoring and selfless investment in our individual lives!
Adieu Father Dunning! May your Creator adjudge your works worthy and grant you eternal rest!

May Father Dunning’s soul rest in perfect peace. What he did for Aquinas college can never be forgotten!! He gave us a sense of pride, bordering on intellectual and sporting arrogance albeit built on hardwork, we believe we could conquer all, we did a lot of times and when we don’t , he thought us the spirit of humility to bear the pangs and pains, while achieving, still pursuing to chart new courses..His legacy lives on in our hearts. Fare the well.. so long .

O man! hold thee on in courage of soul
Through the stormy shades of thy wordly way,
And the billows of clouds that around thee roll
Shall sleep in the light of a wondrous day,
Where hell and heaven shall leave thee free
To the universe of destiny.
This world is the nurse of all we know,
This world is the mother of all we feel,
And the coming of death is a fearful blow
To a brain unencompass’d by nerves of steel:
When all that we know, or feel, or see,
Shall pass like an unreal mystery.
Rest on Rev Fr Dunning.
You built in us a lifetime confidence and spirit of endurance that leads to assured success.
