My deepest sympathy to Beth, Mel, Michael and families on the sad passing of Rev. Fr. Dermod. I have very happy memories of him when he was Chaplin at St. Anne’s Hospital, Dublin. He officiated at my wedding in 1968. I visited him in Athy which was always a joy and shared his love of music. Fr Dermod was humorous, kind and always helpful. He will be missed by all who had the honour to know him.

He was always a tremendous guiding hand to us, especially in our travels abroad. 'Thugamar féin an Samhradh linn' is a piece which we sang as part of the Siamsa show. My sincere condolences to all of Fr Dermod’s family. You have lost such a lovely, kind and good-humoured man who was kind to so many in RTÉ over all his years there.

It was with deep sorrow we learned of Fr. Dermod's death. He was a faithful pastor and close friend for many years, having ministered to the theatrical community to which my mother Phyllis belonged. It was a mark of his broad Christianity that her funeral service, which he conducted, made our Anglican identity especially inclusive. May Dermod rest in peace and rise in glory .

I have the fond memories of serving mass as a young altar boy for Fr Mc Carthy over fifty years ago in Athy,where he then introduced the real Folk Mass.
It was just a majic musical experience where he packed the huge church then with young and old.
I remember well parishioners coming to his masses on Sunday mornings as he was the quickest priest ever to deliver a mass which people loved.
He was a pure gentleman to us all as young altar boys and treated us with the highest of respect.

Knowing Fr. Dermod for the past 55 years, through my involvement with Siamsa, was a joy. Dermod was a wonderful advocate and friend to us in Siamsoiri Na Riochta and contributed much help especially during our initial tour of the States in 1976. With his communication skills he opened many doors.

Sincere sympathy to the McCarthy family on your sad loss of Dermod. A wonderful man and priest and yet humble, he left his mark on all that he done and on all that he met. We first met him more than 50 years ago through our association with Siamsa Tíre and we have many memories of sharing his great talent, from learning dance steps outside his church in Athy to the many celebrations and sing songs in Tralee or Dublin, where he would be master of ceremonies and keep the ball rolling at his piano or piano accordeon. Go mbeidh Solas Geal na bFlaitheas aige.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Rev Fr.Dermod McCarthy at this very sad and difficult time. As a former administrator of St.Mary’s Pro Cathedral he was an enormous support to me during my time as administrator and I am forever thankful to him for his advice and guidance and encouragement and for his friendship over many years.

It is with great sadness that I heard of Fr McCarthy's death. From the time he was a Curate in Athy in the early 1970s he was a treasured friend of my parents and family. Over the decades he celebrated Mass for joyful and sad family occasions. In latter years he visited my elderly mother, Mollie, and i last saw him at her 90th birthday celebration.
I feel so blessed to have known him and hope that his family take comfort from the joy he brought to so many in his lifetime. May he rest in peace.

We send our sincere sympathy to McCarthy family on the death of Fr Dermod RIP. We have fond memories of meeting Fr Dermod for the first time in St. Mary's Pro Cathedral. When he was Administrator, he invited us to serve as Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist and Ministers of The Word in the Pro. He also invited us and encouraged us to participate in other voluntary duties in the Pro. Fr. Dermod was a wonderful priest, a gentleman, a teacher, a great educator and always willing to learn. He was fearless in taking risks largely for the benefit of others. He was an excellent communicator, his voice was synonymous with RTE Religious programmes /broadcasts. We pray Fr. Dermod may gain his heavenly reward and rest in peace with the celestial choir of angels and saints.

So many happy memories of all the Music sessions when he was Curate in Athy and also he was the Priest that carried out our Wedding in 1971. ( great music sessions that day too ).

(I have a physical disability. I travelled to Lourdes with the IHCPT Group from Dublin in the mid 1980’s. Fr. McCarthy was the Group Chaplain that time. I have vivid memories of meeting him during that pilgrimage, even though that is 40 years ago or so now.

I will remember Fr Dermod in my prayers. Eternal Rest grant unto him, O Lord.
