Special memories of Dear Fr .Bob .Your compassion , kindness knew no. bounds. ..Your wisdom ,empathy,,non judgemental nature has impacted and radiated to all who were fortunate to cross your path .My first lecture encounter nearly 30 years ago I adopted your strategy and stages in relation to life’s challenges .. Separation Stage , Transition Stage and then Re entry Stage . Such great wisdom has brought clarity and empowerment through out life’s journey ..My twin brother died on Christmas Eve also and again your stages will now guide me through . Thank you Fr Bob . May you rest in peace and tranquility on your Rite of Passage from your earthly abode .God bless you ,your family and friends .
Sincere sympathies to Bob’s family and many friends. Bob was a wonderful human being and priest, who was always encouraging and quick to reach out. He leaves behind a warm glow.
My sincere sympathy to all of Robert's friends.I have very happy memories of Robert from my time in All Hallows.May his gentle soul rest in peace.
To me Bob embodied the values of All Hallows. He was so gentle and yet strong, always open to questions (of which I had many when we first met!) his empathy was extraordinary and his gentle encouragement helped me to develop as a person and, I hope, as a Christian.
My condolences to all Bobs family and friends. He left an indelible mark on those of us who were privileged to know him. I was blessed to be part of a group who him as a supervisor over a two year period and I will always remember how he guided and encouraged us with great kindness and wisdom. May he rest in peace.
A shining light has been extinguished in All Hallows .Bob ,forever understated and shunning the limelight, would never see it that way .And yet he possessed that extraordinary charismatic touch so often seen in his fellow Derrymen, notably , John Hume and James Heaney .An outstanding counsellor , creator ,and leader, he leaves behind a cohort of grateful devotees , thankful for the opportunity to have known him and to have benefitted from his talents and deep spirituality.
Farewell Bob ,we will miss you greatly, and may the Good Lord forever look down with favour on your gentle soul.,
Our Sincere Sympathy to the family and friends of Fr Bob. We were both privileged to have met him through our studies, a truly inspirational and spiritual person. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
There are a few people that leave a huge impression and Bob was one of them. His voice - both spoken and singing will forever be in my head. Bob lived the gospel and did this in a quiet and practical way.Thank you so much.
Sincere sympathy to Bob’s relations, former colleagues and the wider All Hallows Community on his death at this time. For me he was the founder and the passion behind the start of the Programme, which started as ‘Preparing for Ministries’ in 1985 – and subsequently morphed through a number of lifetimes into Pathways today. Part of the fabric and the history of All Hallows in its last 20 + years, he will be forever held in our hearts - as most especially will his storytelling, his music, and his ‘northern’ directness and sense of humour. We will miss you, Bob – may your gentle soul rest in peace.
Sincere condolences to the Whiteside family at this sad time. Yesterday's celebration at All Hallows College brought back special memories of Fr Bob, members of staff and students. He was a gentleman and a pleasure to meet. I shed tears yesterday, as many of you may have done. Hopefully those tears will bind us together.
Rest peacefully Fr Bob.
Fr Bob was one of the coolest priests! The view of the seminarians in both All Hallows and Clonliffe in the 80s RIP
Deepest sympathy to all of Fr Bob's many friends on his passing especially his friend of 60 years Vincent Keane and Cheryl. Fond memories of him staying in our home many years ago. May you rest in peace Fr Bob.
It was hard to believe that we were watching Bob's funeral today, he was always so alive, positive and humorous, it is hard to believe that he is no longer with us. I have treasured our 60 years of friendship beginning in 1963 as a seminarian in All Hallows, being ordained together in '69 and maintaining our friendship since then. Thank you, Bob, for who you have been to so many people.
In All Hallows, Bob played the part of Thomas More in the "Man for All Season", Bob, you were truly " a man for all seasons.
Peace my friend.
Deepest sympathies to all Bob's nearest and dearest. Fond memories of the Apple Loft 1987/88, Bob's wisdom, insights, honesty, encouragement and care prepared so many of us for ministry in a changing Church. Bob was a gentleman and a true Christian, may he now hear the master welcoming him with the words, "well done good and faithful servant".
I was blessed to have had him as one of my lecturers during my time as a student at All Hallows. A truly remarkable priest and teacher. May he rest in peace.
Philip and I had the privilege of knowing Bob from 2005 until 2022, through the Sunday community at All Hallows. Every Sunday after mass we would gather in the coffee dock for tea, coffee, and craic. Bob's wry jokes and hearty laughter were welcomed at every table. We were blessed to have his friendship and will pray for him and for all those who grieve his passing.
The sadness of Bob’s death is compensated in having had the blessing of Bob in my life. A truly gentle, caring and inspiring person, who brought peace and light to the world.

May you rest gentle in the arms of the Lord.
God rest you Bob. And thanks for all you did for the church. Happy to have come under your wing for a while.
May Bob's gentle soul rest in peace.

It was a joy and privilege to have met you and got to know you through my brother Vincent, your classmate in All Hallows.
I served with Bob on the staff of AHC from 1993 to 2013. I watched his funeral mass today. Thanks to everybody he got the send off he deserved. Bob frequently described pastoral supervision as a place to lay one's burden down. On Christmas Eve he did just that peacefully and gracefully. I give thanks for his life and feel honoured to have know him and served with him.
I’m so sad to hear this news.
Bob was a man of insight and depth, but also great warmth and humour. I remember him so fondly from my time in All Hallows and I know his reassuring presence will be missed by many.
Deepest Sympathy to all who mourn Fr. Bob relatives, friends and past students at, All Hallows. It was a privilege to know him. and to have been a student in his class. May He rest in eternal Peace. Mary Coleman.
It's the middle of the night here in Mission Viejo -- watching the Mass from All Hallow, brought tears to my eyes as it brought me back b our days together in All Hallows (1963-1969).

A kind and gentle soul, Bob also enjoyed a piece of craic from time to time -- over the years, we have been able to stay in touch and I will miss him as a dear friend.

Bob, rest in peace and know that you will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Luke J. Cunnane
Privileged and blessed to have experienced Fr Bob as my teacher in my module for Ritual and Pastoral Care for MALPC just before be got ill. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
Bob your loyal and compassionate ministry on this earth has come to its end and now you begin your new journey with all the angels and saints. You were a true witness to the gospels, a really down to earth and humane pastor. You spread the good news all over the world. You have well earned your resting place in the healing arms of your loving Creator. Sending sympathies to all the Vincentian community, and All Hallows past staff and community of students.
I was greatly saddened to hear of Bob's passing. I have many happy memories of Bob from my time as a student in All Hallows College, Drumcondra. I have thought of him often in the years since leaving the college and I think of him especially today. He was a man whose depth of kindness and sensitivity was matched only by his wit and talent for music making. Rest in peace, Bob.
A gentle and genuine human being. Condolences to all of Bob's loved ones.

It was with deep sadness that I learned of the death of dear Bob on C'mas morning.
I was blessed to have had him from my first year in the seminary as my spiritual director. He was deeply human, never judgemental, always encouraging, spiritually insightful, and always pleasantly humourous.
We stayed friends ever since. He had such a gentle yet realistic view of life, of people and their problems, of the sufferings of people in their difficulties, and much much more, I always came away from our meetings and meals touched, uplifted, and always enriched.
Those of us who have had the luck, privilege and honour to know Bob have been deeply blessed.
Bob, may you now know the fullness of life forever.
Thank you for being who you were and how you were......So so many of us have greatly profited.
May God have mercy on your noble soul.
One difficult day for me in All Hallows as I was walking between college buildings I heard my name being called from behind… Bob’s voice was easily recognisable. He asked if I wanted to go out for a meal… For me it was like having a meal with our Merciful Lord.
Thank you Bob, I have never, and will never forget your tender loving care on that and many other occasions.
Sincere sympathy to all relatives and friends of Fr. Bob. A Priest gifted with so much talent who communicated his message of the good news in a soft and gentle manner through the spoken word and through the medium of music and song. He can now hear the words of the hymn - Softly and gently Jesus is Calling and taking you Fr. Bob as promised to the eternal home in Heaven - may you enjoy eternal rest.
