Rev. Fr. Terence McGUCKIN

I knew Terence in my first year at All Hallows. He was a hard working student. He had a great personality, a good sense oh humor, was friendly and liked by all. A man of faith and a lot of goodness. I have offered mass for him and the comfort and consolation of his family, after learning of his death in news from All Hallows Association this morning. May he enjoy eternal life with the Lord whom he served so well.

I am very saddened to learn of Terry's death. We joined the Dominicans together in 1971 and made profession together in 1972. The Dominican spirit remained strong in his heart always. He was very pleased, on arriving to be PP at Queensway, to discover that a statue of St Dominic had been set into the wall near the front door of the presbytery. His priestly ministry was always also 'Dominican': contemplation and study, preaching and teaching, works of compassion and mercy, undertaken always with sincerity and with his distinctive sense of humour. I extend my sympathy to his brothers and sisters and to all who are grieving his loss. As he would have wanted I will offer Mass for him and for the McGuckin family in the coming days.

Dear members of the McGuckin family, thank you for the privilege of sharing with you in the funeral mass for Terrence earlier today. It was a fitting farewell to a fine man and good priest. It was lovely to have had the chance to meet you. May you have a safe journey back to Cork as you finally lay Terrence to rest. I was very sad to hear of Terry’s passing. He was such a gifted man. We were great friends when we spent time together at The English College in Rome and, on our down time, we visited lots of places in Italy together: my first trip to Florence and Venice was with him. We also journeyed to Corfu, by train and ferry, for new year 1984.
He had a very kind heart and a great sense of humour. He was a good priest. We shall miss him but I hold fond memories of him always! May he rest in peace!

I have not seen Fr. Terence for many years. He was in residence after his ordination, at All Hallows College, Dublin for a year, until June 1981. I was a first year student that year and Terence was always so friendly. He was a wise man, kind, and sincere. He had a great sense of humour and was well liked by the students and faculty. My prayers are with his family, relatives and friends at this time. At dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
