My deepest condolences to Olivia and all of John's family on the loss of John, my very dear and respected friend over many years, first teaching in Trinity College and then at the Royal Irish Academy where he was the very competent chair of the Committee on the Bible and Eastern Studies and International Coferences on these subjects for a number of years. His gentleness and competence made him ideal for the positions. He will be rrmembred for his contibutions to biblical studies, to Mid-Eastern archaeology, and edition of biblical travelogue, but mainly for his own personality. May is gentle soul rest in peace.
I was very sad to learn of the death of John Bartlett. Personal contact with John was primarily at meetings of the Society for Old Testament Study which we were both privileged to serve as President, and where his genial presence will be greatly missed. He made a valuable contribution to our discipline as a writer and teacher, for which we are grateful. Sincere condolences.
Sincere sympathy to Olivia and family on the passing of John, May he rest in peace and rise in Glory.
My dear friend Helen,

So sad to hear of John's passing. He was the gentlest of souls, and for many years a near-neighbour in Dundrum. His contribution to Trinity was immense, not least his editorship of Hermathena. May he rest in peace, and may his family find comfort in his memory.
It is with great sadness that I learnt of the death of The Revd Prof John R Bartlett MRIA. I got to know John at the regular meetings of The Society for Old Testament Study which he attended regularly. He also served as the Society's President in 2020 when members gathered in Dublin for the Summer Meeting that year. I remember well his learned papers to the Society which also gave us a glimpse of his gifts as a teacher.

John will be much missed by members of the Society.

With warm condolences to John's family and friends.
With deepest sympathy to Penny on the death of your Father. May he rest in peace.
We were very sad to hear the news of John's death. This must have been a very difficult time for you all. We send our love and prayers to Olivia and the family, in gratitude for John's scholarship, his preaching and his personal support over the years.
