Rev. Pat McGlynn C.S.Sp.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Fr. Patrick McGlynn. For me he was one of a small handful of excellent teachers I experienced in my secondary school years who gave me some hope and direction. He was a true professional with total dedication to his chosen subject. Fr. McGlynn possessed the magnificent skill of always striking at the core themes of all the texts we covered to help teach his students' analytical skills and to obtain a deeper introspective examination, of not just the specific books, but the world around us. He always encouraged my writing. In a time when teachers were emotionally void to the needs of students with mental health issues Fr. McGlynn was one of the rare teachers, who through his emotional intelligence knew how to indirectly bring a student up through such encouragement. He will always be one of a small group of people to whom I dedicate my success as an author and professional writer. My condolences to all his family and friends.

Father McGlynn was my English teacher, in my early years of secondary school, at St. Michael's College. Decades later, his words echo in my memories. He encouraged his students to write short, direct sentences. His students owe him a debt of gratitude. He was a superb teacher, who taught us with enthusiasm & good humour.

My sympathy to Fr. McGlynn’s family on his passing. He was in charge of first year students when I arrived in Rockwell and he presented a stern persona but a smile was never far away. He was a very good English teacher and a thoroughly honourable man. I had huge respect for him. Rest in peace.

A very sad loss. Fr Pat was very good to me during my school years. A man much respected. May he rest in peace.

RIP Fr Mc Glynn. I attended Rockwell from 74/78 and was privileged to know Fr Mc Glynn. He wore a cheeky grin under a stern face and always treated pupils with respect and honesty. One of the good ones who cannot be underestimated.

My prayers and sympathies to the McGlynn family on the death of Fr. Pat. May his gentle soul rest in peace. I was with him in Rockwell both as a prefect from 1970 -72, and later as a priest for eight years until he went to St. Michaels. He was a legend in Rockwell , a kind man and great teacher. He had his own way of doing things but as one can gather from the other condolences,his method was effective. He was a great gift also to St.Michaels. May his gentle soul rest in peace. To the McGlynn family, be proud of Fr. Pat,He was a great priest, and a caring gentleman.

Fr McGlynn was an excellent teacher, dean and priest. Happy memories of and appreciative to have had the benefit of his tuition and care in Rockwell in the 80s. Sincere sympathy to all his family and friends who may take consolation in a life well lived. May he reap his eternal reward in heaven.

He kept the history alive of STMC and he was a perfectionist with a terrific sense of humour. May he Rest In Peace.

RIP Fr. Pat McGlynn. A great English teacher with a sharp, dry sense of humour and a huge love for Liverpool. I’ll always remember him fondly, especially the way he used to herd us back to night study with his whistle after we’d been playing football in the yard. A true stalwart of St.Michael's.

RIP Uncle Pat. I have great memories of Rockwell summer camps, family visits, and fancy dinners. I'm grateful you married me and christened my kids. You loved sport, especially the English cricket team and Liverpool (and we'll forgive you for that!). You'll be deeply missed, but your spirit will live on. You'll never walk alone.

It is with sadness that I read of Fr Pats passing. He was a wonderful English teacher to our 4 boys in St Mchaels College. A friend to them all also.

I was in Rockwell from 1972-1974 and remember Fr. McGlynn with great fondness. Following a heavy snowfall I managed to hit a priest with a snowball and was promptly sent up by that priest to Fr. McGlynn - who was a Dean at that time. When I recounted what I had done Fr.McGlynn smiled, fined me 5p and sent me on my way. I think he enjoyed my transgression even more than I did. My sympathies to the McGlynn family.

I had the utmost repect for Fr. Pat. He was a great teacher and a very fair man. Great memories of him "herding" the students back to study after the one hour break. It was a sight to behold. Droves of young lads shepherded by a single man. That was the level of respect he commanded.

Fr Pat was more like an uncle to us growing up rather than a first cousin . I have fond memories of him visiting and even fonder memories of our family visits to him in Rockwell, with my mam and dad, where he really looked after us. Dinner in Rockwell was a great treat for us at that time . Pat made a difference which is a great legacy to have. I know he will rest in peace now. Look after each other. Tony

I have such fond memories of Fr.Pat as our brilliant english teacher in St.Michael’s and as the leader of evening study - his intelligence, kindness & brilliant sense of humour was in every conversation from analysing Golding’s Lord of the Flies to discussing the midfield at Liverpool FC.

In more recent years his support of the PPU was so valued by so many.

Popeye as he was affectionally known was a really good man. He was very helpful to my mother and I when my father died after I'd only been in Rockwell for 14 days.
Never had the pleasure of him teaching English.

So sad to hear. Fr Mc Glynn taught me in Rockwell. He was a great English teacher and man of wisdom; I still hear his call to study times in my head when I walk around the college. I met him several times after school in St Michael’s and always enjoyed our chats - invariably setting me straight on some life issue or other. The college has faced challenges in regard of aspects of it’s legacy but not in the case of Pops, short for Popeye, as we affectionately knew him; his family should be proud of his legacy as a good and honourable man, an educator and a mentor. Godspeed Fr Mc Glynn.
