Condolences to all the Mellon family circle at this sad time. Richard and I were Irish teammates but after our hockey careers we met most years at Cheltenham, at that other sport we both enjoyed. A lovely gentle man who will, no doubt, be much missed by all who knew him.

Deepest condolences to the entire Mellon Family. RD was one of the great guys. I first met him when he came to play against St.Columba’s when I was 15. I played with him and against him in my hiatus with TCD. He guided TRR as an astute coach who was confident enough to allow players express themselves to a Leinster title. He was also later a fantastic manager who immortalised the words “the team on Saturday is the same as last week except for ...”
RIP RD you made a significant mark on so many who are so fond of you.

Sad to hear of Richard's passing. Remembered as a wonderful player, a fair opponent and a gentleman on and off the pitch. Will always remember his lovely smile. May he rest in peace.

Gillian and all your family. So sorry to learn of the death of Richard. I played hockey with him at TCD in the late 60s and met him many times since in TRR. He was a great guy and a great player. He will be much missed.
