I didn't know Dick for long, in fact I only met him three times. I bought a drum kit from him about fifteen years ago . What should have been a simple transaction turned out to be one of the best experiences of my life. The advice on drums and drumming left an indelable mark for me. Dicks stories of the drums he had and the showband era was fascinating to me. Such a gentleman who gave of he's time and experience to encourage a novice like myself. We had such a laugh. May of offer my condolences to Dicks wife and family.

a bit of Cork wit. I spent a year in the Military College with Dick on our
course. When I had a problem with an assignment etc Dick was the man

Sincere and heartfelt sympathy to Margaret and family on the sad passing of your beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather. My first serious
meeting with him was on Christmas Day, 1955, when we were both on
Stand-To Duty in Collins Bks., Cork, and we had a long discussion on
the fact that both of us came frm East Cork. From then on , our friendship grew stronger and stronger, and has remained so to this present day,
especially during our Potential Officer's Course, our Catering Course, and
both of us being Secretary, Officers Mess, McKee Barracks, on a number of occasioins. Having now gone to his Eternal Reward, he leaves a legacy which wont be forgotten and will be difficult to replace' To me he was a
thorough gentleman and a professional in the line of Military Administration. To Margaret and family, you can be extremely proud of the esteem in which he was held by all. We trust that God will give you the strength and courage to bear your loss in this sad time for you all.Goodbye Dick, you deserve a well earned rest, May You Rest In Eternal

It is with sadness that we've lost a true Gentleman and good friend Dick Irwin.from his native Ballymacoda where he loved visiting and also knockadoon where he loved to walk with Margaret around the Capel way walking trail .I served with him in Tpt Coy .He was always pleasant to talk to ,and had great knowledge of what was happening in the real world,he was also very much tuned in to the Gaa,he was a great family man and Their all a credit to him ,so farwell friend will miss you in knockadoon you've fired your last shot Rip.

Dick had a distinguished career in the Defence Forces, particularly in the Supply and Transport Corps. His service was marked by his participation in significant events, such as the 50th anniversary of the 1916 Rising, where he was part of the Guard of Honour during a parade reviewed by the then Minister for External Affairs, Frank Aiken TD. His rapid rise through the ranks, based purely on merit, and the respect he earned from his peers and colleagues, highlight his exceptional character and professional competence. It was indeed a pleasure to have known him, worked with him and enjoyed his congenial, sage company. Sincere condolences to Margaret and his family and may his gentle soul rest in eternal peace.

Comdt Irwin was posted to my unit from BWS S&T Clancy Bks Dublin in the early 80s during his Tenure as officer commanding 1 Fd S&T his knowledge of logistical support within the Defence Forces was invaluable.
