My deepest condolences to both sisters Pamela and Sheila, his loving family Maharry's (all), and his many friends. Richard's extraordinary kindness and his passionate advocacy for other artists struck me most . He lived through art, first his own distinguished studio practice and then the art of others around him. I'll miss Richards warmth and wicked humour.
From the first time I saw Richard's 1999 exhibition at the OBG gallery Belfast, I was smitten. The Japanese rice paper series was for me other worldly. I have been captivated ever since. His work is timeless.

Chelsea and I were so fortunate to have known Richard these last few years through our dear friend, his sister Sheila. We all celebrated Christmas 2024 together and we’ll treasure that memory forever. Although physically he struggled, his lightning wit, profound insights on life and art, and compassionate lens were irrepressible. How he made us laugh! Mischievous, brilliant, kind and gentlemanly. Sending so much love to all who loved and knew him, especially Sheila and Pam. May you take comfort in the light he brought and the incredible legacy he leaves us all.
Rest in peace Dear Richard

So sorry to hear of Richards passing. What a gorgeous man, a beautiful soul with such a bright spirit and a bit of a ‘devilish’ soul. I loved meeting him on the road.
RIP Richard.
My deepest sympathies to Richard’s family and close friends. I will always remember his kindness and openness from the moment we were introduced. He was a true gentleman.
I am like so many others deeply sad to hear this news. I first met Richard in the Kerlin where I bought a catalogue from him, I was just a young artist - this was perhaps in 1995, his show in the gallery at the time was a major experience for me, seeing an artist who was changing his work, away from the gestural to something more monumental, finding a new space, it was an exciting show. A couple of years later I met him for real in Japan, he was so kind and open and we shared many days in Tokyo and Saitama together. I had only recently listened to the podcast Richard did with the National Gallery in which he was so clear about his work and what he was doing and of course beautifully clear about not knowing, not knowing what he was next going to do to a painting. Sincere condolences to his family and many friends. He will be deeply missed.
Rest in peace Richard. A lovely man you were and a great and totally dedicated artist too. Fond memories of Paris in 2007 at the CCI. Know that you were loved
So very sorry to hear of Richard’s passing. He was such a lovely person and artist. Always a joy to chat with about Italy and art and everything in between. He will be greatly missed.
Richard Gorman a wonderful warm and generous artist and person, great to be in your presence sleep well dude
My condolences go out to Richard’s family and wide circle of friends. He was my student at Dun Laoghaire College of Art back in the day, but I was the one learning from him. His work was a calming zone in shape and colour, and he brought this into his personality, even when all the odds were stacked against him . His passing leaves a stillness in the art world.
Sincere condolences to Sheila and Pamela on the death of Richard. Fond memories of him always smiling and a pleasure to meet.
This is sad,sad news.

Having worked collaboratively on several of his publications with him, he will be deeply missed for his joy in life and curiosity about those he encountered, for his humour, his stories, his warmth and his kindness, for his colourful and vibrant personality that so much resembles his paintings.

Had the great pleasure of meeting and working with Richard during his residency at the Sirius Arts Centre in Cobh during the late 1990's. A man of mischief, wit and kindness - and a gentleman to boot. Honoured that our paths crossed.

Deepest condolences & sympathies to his family and friends.
What a loss, man and artist. Knew him from the early eighties when he was making objects before he embarked into painting and what an art he honed in that medium. A real hard worker equalled with his sense of humour and fun. His legacy will only grow.
Condolences to the family
