My sincere condolences to Richard and the Fitzpatrick family on the passing of your beloved Dad.

He was such a lovely man with a kind, patient and gentle manner. I have so many fond memories of your Dad, most notably when he stepped in to take one of our 6th Year English classes and delivered a recital of Austin Clarke's 'The Lost Heifer' that Laurence Olivier would have struggled to emulate.

I'm so sorry to have learned of his passing so belatedly but rest assured that you're in my thoughts at this difficult time.

My condolences to Aoife and the Fitzpatrick family. Dick was vice-principal of DLS in my time but he was the de facto boss! He didn't entertain any nonsense but he was a fair man, he will not be forgotten!

Dick always gave a warm welcome when I visited Lisa, his daughter. I recall his intelligence, wit, curiosity, dignity and generosity. He stuck me as a kind, gentle man who cared deeply for others. We need of people like this exceptional man in our world. God bless his family.

Dick was one of the great teachers that taught in Ard Schoil Chaoimhin Arklow in the early years of the 60s. Very sharp intellect and very proud of his Ashford roots? RIP RICHARD .

Sincere Sympathy to the Fitzpatrick Family on the passing of a true gentleman, scholar and great teacher. Learned a lot from him in my days in De La Salle in the early 70's. Chatted to Dick many times since then, always a great conversationalist. May he rest in peace.

The phrase "a gentleman and a scholar" could have been invented especially for Dick. I was a member of his first Leaving Cert class in DLS Wicklow in 1971. He was always warm and encouraging, and gave me a love of literature that remains with me to this day. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
