Dear Mimi, I just heard today the very sad news about Richard and I extend my deepest condolences to you and yours on his loss, may he rest in peace. Brian Owens, Irish National / Zurich.

Richard tails flying running nimbly up the stairs of the law library or Richard pacing the balcony between bouts of very focused dictating are some of my many memories of Richard. The way he worked reminded me in so many ways of a performance athlete - fast, disciplined, goal oriented but always, always balanced by lighter moments or an eruption of laughter before getting back to business.The Law Library has lost one of its stalwarts. My sincere sympathy to Mimi and Emma who have suffered the greater loss of a huband and father respectively. May time heal the loss and may Richard rest in peace.

To Emma and Mimi, I am truly heartbroken for your loss. Richard was a true gentleman in every sense. He was kind, generous, and devoted to his family. I’ll always remember how warmly he welcomed me into your home, and made me feel like part of the family. Growing up, Richard would always welcome me saying “ahh my second daughter”, and that is how it always felt, it felt like home. I remember fondly all my time spent in your home, trips to Louth, and weekends away to Mount Juliet. Richard’s talented piano playing was a gift to all who heard it, and a true reflection of his gentle and loving soul. There’s a lovely quote I heard many years ago, “where words fail, music speaks” and I hope you always remember hearing him playing the beautiful piano in your living room, as anyone who spent time in your home will have fond memories of too. Richard and I were colleagues in Guinness in the "old days " . He was wonderful company and I always felt the better for being in his presence . I am sure he will be greatly missed by all his family and friends .

Richard's talents were multi-faceted and were used by him for the benefit of others. A barrister's work involves a lot of problem solving, and one of his phrases was "Inside every problem is a solution waiting to get out." His efficiency at work was incredible.

He loved greatly and was greatly loved. He will be hugely missed by all who knew him. We offer our sincerest sympathy to you, Mimi, to Emma and to all the family. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
