I’m proud to say I was one of Richie’s boys . . . he was like a dad to us Irish Times messenger boys . . . but Richie was more, much more than that . . . he was a legend who greeted journalists, workers, cleaners, callers to Fleet Street with a smile and a yarn about his dolphin-like feats in the swimming pools . . . but above all else it was his kindness and loyalty to colleagues over 47 years in those Dickensian offices that made him special . . . we were blessed to have him as a boss and mentor . . . rest easy Richie.
