My deepest sympathies to Sheila and family. I had the honour of knowing Richard for many years via his work in the Passport Office and as a neighbour. He was a gentleman and a valuable friend. He loved Cobh and was of great help to me when I moved there 20 years ago. I was saddened to hear of his passing and to have lost contact with him over the last few years while I worked abroad. I remember him very fondly and think of him often. I'm very sure there is a welcome place, and a small drop, waiting for him upstairs.

My sincerest sympathy to the O'Shea family on your recent loss. Had the privilege of first getting to know Dick in Verolme Cork Dockyard many years ago, he was a pleasure to deal with, always willing to listen and offer sound advice to a very young colleague. Also interacting with him in later years in the Cobh & Harbour Chamber of Commerce, always a great person to turn to for advice. He really was one of life's real gentlemen, he will be missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him but more so by all his family at this very sad time, made all the more difficult by the necessary restrictions which prohibited us from giving him the send off he deserved.
