Sincere belated condolences to Dixie, Valerie and family on the untimely passing of Richy. I didn't have the pleasure of knowing him personally, but from what I've heard he was a most affable individul, a true friend. I hope it is a consulation to know he is in his heavenly home with his sister Merette and his uncle Fr. Mil. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dilis.

I was so sorry to hear of Richie’s recent passing and send my sympathies to all the Whelan family. Only 2 weeks earlier, I was delighted and surprised to receive an email from him with a photo from the SHSC sailing course in 1989, having not been in touch for quite some time. My memories of him from our childhood in Schull were of a great character, full of fun and a brilliant sense of humour. And I remember fondly my dear friend Merette also. My thoughts are with you all at this sad time.

Myself and Nick are shocked and saddened by the death of Richie. I am lost for words. Sleep well Richie. You have left some legacy that is for sure! All our love and sympathy, Gill and Nick.

My sincere condolences to the Whelan family on the very sad passing of Dixie. I went to UCC with Dixie and I have such fond memories of him throughout 2000- 2004. He was always the life and soul of the Commerce Society and the Rugby club and he was such a great character. I met Dixie at a wedding in 2015 and we probably had not seen each other for 10 years and he came up to me straight away and it was like we were back in UCC reminiscing over our student days. I am so sorry for the loss of Dixie, gone too soon but always remembered. May he Rest in Peace.

Deepest deepest condolences to all the Whelan family on Richard's passing. While in school, you always expected to see him on the sidelines of whatever rugby match was in Musgrave park. In more recent years, he'd have a funny impression of an old teacher ready or at least a wry smile if he didn't have time to stop and chat near Prince's Street. The soundest of guys who loved where he was from. So sorry for your loss.

Richy spent a lot of time during his growing years here in No. 10, he was popular with all our family and was full of stories, well mannered and kind to all. As a teenager I worked with Richy in the bar at Cork Con. He answered to both Richie and Dixie, that took me a long time to get my head round. If a fella was 17 or 70 it didn’t matter, he always had a word and could get a reaction. Over the years I could bump into him literally anywhere and every time we’d stop and chat. A great connector, always volunteering, always up for mischief. Condolences to his family and friends. RIP Richy.
