Richie's fame as the brilliant hurler he was went far beyond the bounds of his native village. Cloyne had Christy Ring but Castletown had Richie Browne. My late father and Richie's father travelled together on many a Sunday afternoon to watch his matches.

Sincere condolences to Richie's family. He was a very kind man. Richie was a customer in a shop that I worked in. When Cork were playing in the All Ireland final in 2013 and he learned that I did not have a ticket for the match he came in the following week with one for me and made no fuss about the kind gesture.
