Go raibh maith agat as ucht an méid a rinne tú ar son an chultúir, an suim a chuir tú sna hamhráin agus an spreagadh a thug tú do dhaoine, mé fhéin ina measc. Duine speisialta a bhí ionat agus ní bheidh do leithéid arís ann.
Sincere sympathy to Ristéard's family on your sad loss. A deep thinking gentleman who loved everything Irish. Rest in Peace Ristéard🙏
Risteard was was one of the most regular contributors to "I'm Singing in The Crane" for seven years - suaimhneas saoraí ar a anam.
So sorry to hear of Ristéard's passing, may his gentle soul rest in peace..
RIP Donal, the sessions will miss you.
There are strange things done in the midnight sun
By the men who moil for gold;
The Arctic trails have their secret tales
That would make your blood run cold;
The Northern Lights have seen queer sights,
But the queerest they ever did see
Was that night on the marge of Lake Lebarge
I cremated Sam McGee.
To Risteard's daughter & siblings & extended family, with our deepest condolences on your huge loss rip. We are so grateful that Risteard came into our lives & choose Ireland to live the latter part of his life. His love of all things Gaelic, the Irish language, music & dance as well as the people was legendary. His efforts to record & promote these aspects of Irish life has left a fitting legacy & tribute to his life's work. And , there was lots of fun & laughs along the way!!!
May his gentle soul rest in peace now with his great friend Johnny Mullins & all those who have gone before him.

Sincere sympathies Kerry & Bonnie, Robert Thomas & Paul - I had the privelege of knowing Risteard for 35 yrs and shared lots of musical experiences esp in the '80s. A man of care and character and passion about people - he mostly journeyed under the radar but his heart & song spoke volumes to those that heard . We will remember you publicly when appropriate Risteard , in the meantime sweet dreams and rest peacefully.
Duine ar leith a ba ea Risteard agus dea-aithne air i nAlbain freisin. Seo amhrán i nGàidhlig dó... bhí sé go minic abhos ag foghlaim na teanga...

Dh’imich Fear nan Cas Aotrom
Dh'imich fear nan cas aotrom, ar n-aoibhneas, ar sunnd is ar caoidh
'S e chanas a chuid dhaoine gun deach e mar fhìrinn or tìr
‘S e chanas am bàrd-sa gun d' ràinig e raon rèidh a tha thall
'S ged is dual dha mar dhuais e, chan aontar nach eil sin mar chall...

The lightfooted one’s gone, our joy, our glee, our lament
His people can say that he left like a truth from our land
This poet says that he’s reached a distant level plain
And though deserved his prize, none agree that it isn’t a loss...

Dh’imich Risteard air rèidhlean an t-slèibh’ o nach till e gu bràth
As Èire gun d’ èirich on phèin is on dìth sin na shlàint’
Mar dhannsair ‘s e b’annsa linn leuman bu luaithe air làr
Mar dhuine ‘s e b’ fhonn dha gach amhran ‘s gach cànan ‘s gach dàn.

Richard left on the plain of a hill from which he’ll never return
From Ireland he’s risen from pain and a lack of health
As a dancer we loved his most swift leaps on a floor
As a person his mood and tune was song and language and poem.
Comhbhrón le muintir Richard ní maith linn a mbris.Solas síoraí dó.

"Ó is fear gan chéill a ghabhadh a' dréim leis an gclaí a bheadh ard,
Is claí beag íseal lena thaobh ar a leagfadh sé a lámh;
Cé gur ard é an crann caorthainn, bíonn sé searbh ina bharr,
'S go bhfásann sméara 'gus an bláth sú craobh ar an gcrann is ísle bláth."

"Oh, it is a man without sense that would go climbing a wall that would be high,
And a little low wall at his side on which he could lay his hand;
Although the mountain ash is high, it is bitter at the top,
And berries and raspberry blossoms grow on the tree of lowest flowers."

From: An Draighneán Donn (The Blackthorn), one of the best-known love-songs from the Irish tradition. Translation taken from 'Pale Rainbow - An Dubh ina Bhán', Brian O'Rourke (Irish Academic Press, 1990). I met Risteard and Brian around the same time, the mid-1980s while a student in Galway.

Codladh sámh, a Risteaird.
