Rita (Anne) Dooley
(née Barry)

Over the days following Rita’s death we, her family, spent it hearing wonderful stories of her life, which we cherish.

Of particular fondness for us, has been remembering the many Sunday afternoons playing amongst the orchards in Clough, her family home, and, the summers spent with our cousins on the beaches of Asdee and at Listowel races.

Rita was a keen camogie player with stories of her winning a County Medal, although, the location of the medal remains a mystery.

Her love of baking was instilled at an early age by her mother, and, it was a lifetime passion, highlighted by her winning a scholarship to a cookery school in Dublin. Her Christmas cakes were legendary.

Rita’s special gifts were numerous, especially her generosity of spirit, and her love shined most when caring for others.

You may not know that Rita was a very keen card player: cleverly imparting her children with invaluable life skills.

She also volunteered in many community roles and claimed she was the longest-serving Treasurer of The Courtney Boys School, a role she undertook with full gusto, enlisting Tom as her able assistant.

Rita asked us to make her sound fabulous in her eulogy: we don’t have to make her sound fabulous, she was SIMPLY FABULOUS. We love her and will miss her forever.
