Rita was a lovely lady whom we had the privelege of caring for in her last years. A real lady who loved singing and was very gentle. May you and Joe now rest in peace. Leaba i measc ceol na naingeal go raibh agaibh beirt anois.

I was saddened to hear of Rita’s passing. Both Joe and her were known as the “dynamic duo” at the iconic Ballymaloe House and a visit there while always superb was further enhanced by their professionalism and friendliness to everyone. Growing up in Midleton I also admired their tremendous faith but also recall with much fondness the occasions when they used to pop in to the Maple Leaf on their precious time off to say hello. My sincerest sympathies to Rita’s relatives, neighbours and wide circle of friends. May she rest in peace.

There was always laughter when you met Rita and Joe over the years and funny stories of the times a few of us teenagers worked in Ballymaloe and the devilment we might have got into. In the last year or so I would see her in Oaklodge nursing home and chat for a short while. She would be singing away ... a lady if ever there was one. RIP Rita.
