Rita DONOHUE
(née Quinn)

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Rita. I attended her Economics class during the mid-seventies. Rita was a good teacher, and she was well able to control the class. I sometimes smile to myself thinking about Rita, when I see a financial commentator on TV, tediously explain the laws of supply and demand. Fifty years ago, Rita had made sure we all left school knowing the basics of economic theory, and that was all we needed to go out into the world. Rita made a difference in the lives of so many people, and may she now rest in peace.

I’m so very sorry to hear of the passing of Mrs Donohue, my condolences to her family and friends. As many have said she was a wonderful teacher at Ballyfin, I’ll never forget the huge hug she gave me when we got our leaving cert results and the kind words she left me with. She was a truly brilliant lady, may she rest in peace.

Condolences to the Donohue family on the recent passing of Rita. As my economics teacher, the professionalism and humour she brought to the role has been the template, for my career. Some time back, penned her a few lines enquiring of her wellbeing and letting her know how I'd gotten on, was really thrilled to receive a beautiful response, even more cherished now! Rita was like a beacon of light during those dark times, as others have said, we loved her, ní bheidh a leithéid le feiceáil arís!

RIP Mrs Donohue. I was so sorry to hear of your passing over the weekend. I was one of the lucky ones that you picked for your Economics (a class of 7) and Business Class for Leaving Cert. You were such an amazing teacher and myself and my old school buddies often talk about you now nearly 25 years later. I still remember some of your sayings and I can honestly say it’s a pity they do not make teachers like you anymore. Anyone who had you was just lucky as you knew you were going to do so well in your leaving cert as you cared so much and were a treasure trove of knowledge and had an amazing dry sense of humour. I would like to pass on my deepest sympathy to Tom, Emily and Michael on the sad news on the death of Rita. I am so sorry I couldn’t be with you as I was away on my travels when I got the news. It’s hard to believe that 55 years ago, 1970 that Miss Quinn came into my life. She started her teaching career in Ballyfin and I was one of her first students. She was a very brave lady entering a male dominated school (where no woman feared to tread) she was the first permanent female teacher in Ballyfin. Her smile told it all. I left Ballyfin 50 years ago, but in 2016 I reconnected with Rita when Emily joined Aer Lingus. She had not forgotten me nor me her.
