We had several robust discussions and one had to have a very well reasoned argument to have any chance of persuading Alan to a particular point of view. Always a gentleman, he was a standard bearer for the industry; there were not many like him. May he rest in peace.

We were shocked & deeply saddened to hear such sad news - Alan was so well regarded by all. For us he was and always will be a treasured friend and one of nature's gentlemen - A big man with a big heart and a huge personality, a laugh that was infectious and a life so well lived.

We were shocked & deeply saddened at the very sudden passing of our great friend Alan. Alan was one of nature's gentlemen, generous to a fault, whose love of discourse on sport, politics & current affairs was remarkably all embracing. His total recall of past events was truly phenomenal & made him the most interesting, informative & engaging of company.
Our sincerest sympathies go to his beloved Avril - his constant rock - to Lee, Jeff, Laurene & Wendy & their extended families.
It is hard to believe that this gentle giant will now remain silent & we will no longer benefit from his wit & wisdom. He will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace Alan

A razor sharp mind he could balance the performance of a diverse fleet and inept crews to perfection. Mischief could not allow him resist making the odd tweak here or there to provoke a reaction.
