I met Robert in Faro one evening about 2 hours after he got off the plane, about 16th of September, 1994, along with his niece. We talked, he drank, we smoked for a long time and there was fun to be had. I don't know if he told anybody at home about the hotel but it was both crazy and nice. There is a lot more to it but this is not the time. They are wonderful memories, that are shared by dozens of people from all over the world. Hotel Adelaide was a quiet hotel until I arrived and then it became party central in Faro. It saddens me to read of his passing and now I'm going to have to inform others. It was nice knowing you, Robert. p.s. he enjoyed the experience so much that after heading home to Dublin, he was back in 1 or 2 days and we were off again.
Deepest sympathy to Brenda and Ann on the passing of Robert. He was a much loved friend and will be missed by all who knew him. Gerry Cox and Phil Twomey

I remember Rob as an ace distance athlete in the Early 70's , Inter Varsity Cross Country champion. A decade later my wife Maria and I had the pleasure of Rob's friendship and all that Fernhill , his gardening "commune ", his gardening expertise ,his gardening philosophy which enriched all who met Rob. One still wishes that his ecological spirit would further inspire Fernhill Gardens unique gardening style.
One less sweet spirit
Anne, sincere sympathy on the passing of your brother. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Cliff and Jill
Time it was
And what a time it was, it was
A time of innocence………
I first met Rob in the summer of 1975 when he, along with Dermott, Barry and Ciarán, were busy
growing herbs, cooking vegetarian and making music. Oh, the singsongs we had!
Bliss was it in that dawn to be alive,
But to be young was very heaven!
Robert stayed true to his ideals and both we and the planet were the better for it.

I met Robert on a six week hillwalking holiday with sixteen others to Annapurna sanctuary, Nepal in the mid 1980's. Robert's knowledge of plants and nature was first class and he freely shared such knowledge with his fellow hillwalkers which.was much appreciated.
