I first met Bobby in 1974 when I came to Finance as an AO & he was my AP, tho' only for about 9 or 10 weeks, as I moved on to Analysis. I remember him as very welcoming and helpful to the newcomer - and with a great sense of humour too. You have all my sympathy in your great loss.

I was deeply sorry to hear of Robert's death and sincere condolences to Mary and Rob's family. We were colleagues together for many years in the Department of Finance and Rob was one of my Irish predecessors in the World Bank. He was a man of so many talents and great humour - I remember in particular his role in the "High Finance" Drama Group. Mary is still remembered for her role in the choir in Washington. Rob was especially kind to us in "showing us the ropes" before we left for Washington. May his generous soul rest in peace!

Love and condolences to the Carey family. Rob was a wonderful person; time spent with him was always an absolute delight. I well remember the conversations at Monday night family dinners, full of intelligence, wit and kindness. He will be sorely missed.

I knew Bobby in the Department of Finance. He was a loyal work colleague whose talents and negotiating skills were not always appreciated by lesser superiors. I also remember a World Bank meeting in Washington where Bobby had to penetrate a hugely hostile crowd of demonstrators to get in. No problem to him. We had been bussed in at 6am.

His Elvis collection was legendary and provided him with a welcome broadcasting career.

He was a legend.
