I began reading this death notice not knowing Robert McDonnell and finished it wanting to know so much more about this man and his life. What an incredible human being he was and a truly courageous wife to follow him out to Canada, I so wished to have read the wedding story, perhaps his son Sean who wrote this incredible and inspirational obituary may put pen to paper some day and write a book on his parents and their journey through life. Your pride and love for your Dad is truly uplifting and the world today needs to read and hear about such unique people. Thank you for sharing a part of your lives with us, it was not only interesting but also very moving.

What a great Irishman Bob was, RIP. He was a great loss to Ireland but Canada gained a highly skilled man with a great intellect. His parents bore a wonderful son - we often exported our best people. Bob was blessed to have the drive and intellect to seek further education. My sincere sympathy to his wife and family on the loss of a beloved husband and father.
