My sympathy to Karen, Lorna, Ian and their families. As a pupil at Mount Sackville I still remember being in 1st year English class, in the pre-fab building, doing The Secret Garden - as well as principal and subordinate clauses! - with Mr. Molloy. He gave the honour of reading the last lines of the book in class to Judy! Many years later, after Karen’s talk on pollen (!) in The Gresham hotel, he treated Karen and myself to fish and chips in Beshoff on O’Connell Street - all my years living in Dublin I had never been there. While watching his funeral online I smiled when I heard he really liked fish and chips! Such an all-round nice person. May Mr. Molloy rest in peace.

Robert was a true gentleman,a wonderful colleague in Mount Sackville and a dear friend. I accompanied him on my first ever school tour abroad with the students and on many more after that to Austria and Germany. Ironically, I was on that very same tour on the day of his funeral, which brought back very fond memories of him.His unbounded knowledge of all the places we visited and his wonderful relationship with his students who held him in high regard and most of all the many laughs we shared together. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this very sad time.

So sad to hear of Robert’s passing. Very fond and happy memories of Robert during my working days in Mt Sackville, such a lovely man. My sincerest sympathy to all his family. may he rest in peace.
Robert was very kind to me when I started my teaching career in Mount Sackville in 1970, the same day as him, giving me lifts home to Palmerstown that first year, and chatting about Westport, where my father was also from. As many students and colleagues have said here, he was a gentleman, with a passionate interest in literature and theatre, which greatly enriched his teaching and the many discussions we had in the English department, for thirty years until his retirement. In many ways he was a core presence and influence in the school. Sincere condolences to Karen, Ian and Lorna. He spoke about you all the time. Pauline, Katherine and Emily O’Callaghan

Sorry to read that Mr Molloy has died. A brilliant teacher who made Irish and English tomes alive to the teenage me. His stories were legendary, those school tours, I remember being shocked when I heard someone calling him Bobby and Bertie when to me, he didn't have a name beyond Mr Molloy! Not his greatest student, he always encouraged me.
Sincere sympathy to his family.
RIP Mr Molloy.

Sincere condolences to all his family and former colleagues.
My deepest condolences to you all on Mr.Molloy’s passing and I was glad to be able to come to the funeral today and hear all the stories from Ian and Luke.

I have so many wonderful memories of Mr.Molloy as a teacher and as my year head. How he survived the class of 1986, I will never know!!! We were the ones who bought him the dog!!! But the best one was when he was when he came on the school tour to Italy in 1985, with Mr. O’Sullivan, Sr.Agnes and Mr. Robinson. We nick-named them, Roberto, Ricardo and Antonio for the duration of the tour in honour of our surroundings!!!

He was a loyal customer of dad’s in our Maxol in Palmerstown for many years and himself and dad played golf together a few times over the years.

I’ll never forget his kindness when I was looking for a school to do my HDip. Mam told him I was looking for a school one day when he came into the garage and the following day I had a call from Mr.O’Sullivan offering me the hours I needed for my course. I had a great year there and Mr. Molloy was back subbing after retiring the year before and we had lots of lovely chats in the staff room.

He was such an inspiring teacher but his kindness is what I’ll always remember him for. As so many have said, he really was a gentleman.
I watched and listened to the Mass for Robert. The condolence book here echoes that Robert indeed was a 'fear uasal'. I brought a school tour with Robert and other staff members to Russia and now that I hear Ian, Robert's son's theory about the 'SPY' conspiracy I had a good chuckle, as indeed we looked like a motley crew standing in Red Square in our Irish Couture! Des invited Robert to join the golf society in Kilcloon, he joined and showed them all how to play real golf...in a gentle way. Whenever you saw Robert lift his hand and say, 'listen'! you knew you were in for a good old yarn. It was lovely to see Robert's loving family and to hear his eldest Grandson Luke speak so lovingly about his Grandad. I know Robert missed his wife Brid so much and he spoke so caringly of her. Codladh sámh Robert.
Ian sincere sympathies to yourself and your family on the passing of your father. I’m away at the moment, otherwise I would offer condolences in person. Reading these kind and thoughtful messages must bring you all some comfort While I didn’t know him, I have a sense of how the Apple may not have fallen far from the tree in your case Ian. He has many tributes for the influence he has had on others in his professional life. Draw comfort from your similarity to him in that regard and think of his great legacy which you continue Ian
On behalf of all our family in Westport, sincere sympathy to you Karen, Ian and Lorna on the passing of your Dad. He was always a welcome visitor with your lovely Mam to our home. A life well lived, no doubt he will be sorely missed. May he rest in peace. Paula Hastings - Mick and Bridie Hastings

Lorna, I am so sorry on the passing of your father. I have so many great memories of him. I will always remember him teaching us Hamlet where he reenacted Hamlet deciding on whether or not he should stay on his ship where he was in danger or go on the pirate ship where he would also be in danger. He was standing on his teacher's desk with one foot on a chair trying to explain how Hamlet must have felt. Along with me he inspired so many students. I know we have not been in touch in years - here is my email address lisagaynor@live.co.uk. My heart felt condolences to you and your family.

I have some wonderful memories of Mr. Molloy teaching Gaeilge in Mount Sackville in the 80's. He had a lovely manner about him and instilled in me a love for the language that I still use occasionally to this day, even though I now live in the US. It was also thanks to his teaching methods that I passed Irish in the Leaving Cert.
May he rest in peace and may his family find solace in the memories that they have of him. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. Claudia
