I only knew Ronnie through the Old Galway Diary Podcast and the linked articles. I send my best to the family and want to let them know that his stories brought me joy. I love Galway so much and loved learning about the history of this city. I will miss his voice coming to me weekly. Rest in Peace.
— Britt Anderson
My deepest sympathies to all of the O'Gorman family on the sad passing of Ronnie. He made an amazing contribution to life in Galway. He was always so encouraging and made time for everyone. I first met Ronnie in the 1980s when I was on the school/youth edition of The Galway Advertiser - he encouraged each one of us, and although we were all teenagers, he treated us all as if we were professional journalists. Years later he still took an interest in our lives and always had words of praise and encouragement. He was a true innovator then, and remained so throughout his life. He was a true gentleman, one of a kind, and will be missed. You are all in our thoughts and prayers at this sad time.
— Mary O'Gorman- O'Sullivan (Salthill)
Our deepest condolences to all of the O'Gorman family on the very sad passing of Ronnie. He would often stop for a chat, and was always so enthusiastic about Galway, its people and its history. He made a huge contribution to life in Galway. A true gentleman. You are all in our thoughts at this sad time.
— Mary and Pascal O'Gorman (Salthill)
On behalf of the Galway Arts Centre team, I want to share our condolences with Ronnie's family and friends on his sad passing. Ronnie was a founding member of the Galway Arts Centre over 40 years ago, which is just one of many examples of how he invested his time, energy and intellect into the arts in our city over his lifetime. We are grateful for the knowledge, passion and friendship he shared with us so openly and humbly over the years.
— John Caulfield (Chair, Galway Arts Centre)
Dear Sian and all the O'Gorman family,

My sincere condolences to you on the loss of Ronnie.

I had the privilege of knowing Ronnie when I worked in Magpie Magazine over 25 years ago with Sian, Alison, Bernie, and later Declan. I still remember the hug Ronnie gave me before I left to travel the world. He was a power-house, a force of nature. That rare individual that lights up a room upon entering.

My thoughts are with you. I'm grateful to have known him, albeit for that short time.
— Louise Rooney, Ennistymon (ex Magpie Magazine)
My deepest sympathies to all of Ronnie's family and close friends. An inspirational and joyful man. May he rest in peace.

My sympathy to Ronnie's family neighbours, friends and former colleagues . I have pleasant memories of our meeting at the Autumn Gatherings at Coole, of times having tea and conversation at the late Lois and Sean Tobin's home. Sadly all have passed RIP. Ronnie was so well spoken, courteous, gracious and refined. I recall one time having slipped and fallen on the ice in Eyre Sq . Ronnie came along helped me to my feet ' exclaiming , ' Goodness , if it's 'not the lovely Kate who has fallen ' . He will be deeply mourned and missed . Rest in peace Ronnie.

I was both shocked and saddened to hear that Ronnie had left us. His was a friendly smiling face that was a joy to meet, and he always had the time to pause and chat. Ronnie's generosity towards the cultural life of Galway was enormous, and his Advertiser set a standard that several publishers in other towns have emulated. My sincere condolences to all his family and friends.

It is with great sadness that I learned of the death of Ronnie O’Gorman, one of life’s true gentlemen. A meeting with Ronnie always brought a smile to the face, his cheerful disposition and engaging manner endearing him to anyone who ever had the privilege to deal with him. He leaves a lasting legacy in the form of the Galway Advertiser, one of the country’s first freesheet newspapers which he established in 1970 and still going strong today. But he has also left a mark in so many other ways, for instance his involvement in the preservation and maintenance of Yeats’ Tower, Thoor Ballylee. Galway, a city to which he contributed so much, will be a sadder place without him. I extend my deepest sympathies to those who will, of course, miss him the most: his children Sadhbh, Sian, Anna Joy, Ben and Sally, his brother Phillip and sister Zan and the rest of his wider circle of family friends, and the staff of the Galway Advertiser.
— Noel Grealish TD, Carnmore

Sincere sympathy to all the family. Ronnie was a true friend of the arts in Galway throughout the years. His genuine enthusiasm, support and encouragement for the arts and for Galway artists will always be fondly remembered. Both through the Advertiser, and on a personal level, Ronnie provided crucial support to the creation of Music for Galway, along with many legendary Galway arts organisations. We are all in debt to him. Thank you Ronnie.
