Sincere condolences to Alan, Karen, Barry, John, Ann, Sarah and the extended Long family on the passing of a one of life’s gentleman Ronnie may he rest in peace. It was always a pleasure to chat with him at matches, book launches no matter where you met him he had such a wealth of knowledge. Thinking of you all at this sad time.

My deepest sympathy to Alan, Karen, Barry and families on your dad's death, which I learned about from the tribute in The Independent last Sunday so well deserved. He was always supportive to me in over many years in athletics for which I am very grateful. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

It is with deep regret that I learned of Ronnie's passing in last Sunday's Independent. I knew him in his days at Matterson's Bacon Factory as my late father was a Pig Buyer and supplied Mattersons on occasions. Ronnie was an icon of both the Bacon Industry in Limerick and the Athletics throughout Ireland for the greater part of his life. My sincere sympathy to all those members of his family who I'm sure were very proud of his achievements. R.I.P. Ronnie.

So sad to belatedly hear of the sad passing of Ronnie. I was honoured to have been Chairman of the Sports Arena committee at UL while Ronnie served on the committee. He always made valuable contributions and continued to keep contact with me when his term ended, and had been in regular contact up to recently. Sincere condolences to the Long family.
