Deepest sympathy to Joan and the Delaney family on Ronnie’s passing. I (John) served on a board with Ronnie as Chair and appreciated his skill in focusing on the business in hand with input from all members. I recall a golf outing in Royal Dublin when the late American tennis legend Vitas Gerulaitis was excited to see Ronnie knew of his achievement in Melbourne and asked for an introduction. Delighted to have met Ronnie an absolute gentleman over many years. Rest in peace Ronnie.
My condolences to Ronnie's wife and family. Never met him but over the passed few days I have listened to interviews on radio and TV and of course watched the gold medal race. Incredible achievement at that time and he always came across as a lovely humble gentleman. Rest easy Ronnie, your race is run!
I would like to convey my deepest sympathy and condolences on the sad passing of Ronnie to his wife Joan his children Lisa. Ronnie. Michelle. And all extended family. Ronnie was a phenomenal athlete his achievements on the track speak for themself. He reached the pinnacle of success and put ireland on the map. Off the track he was a very dignified distinguish honourable man he done so much to bring athletes to the forefront in ireland he worked vigorously to help the younger athletes just as Jerry kiernan. Pat hooper and Jim mc namara. Did after him. Unfortunately the political class on many occasions let them down. If I sound biased it's only because I love athletics so Ronnie what you achieved will live on forever R. I. P.

Rest in peace Olympic champion Ronnie Delany. I had the great honour of being commissioned by the National Gallery of Ireland and Irish Life to paint Ronnie’s portrait for the collection in 2000. It was a dream come true. Ronnie Delany was one of the most beloved names in Irish culture for anyone growing up in the last seventy years. His achievements were heroic. My near 90 year old mum put it perfectly yesterday when she said he was out there flying the flag for us all in a small country when there was not all opportunities there are today to do so. Ronnie Delany was a gentleman and loved the process of the portrait and did everything to place it’s image in many subsequent and future publications. The connection was a blessing and we kept the bond ever since . My good friend Paul Ferriter did a magnificent bronze sculpture of Ronnie for his home town of Arklow recently. We were both so fortunate to know and love Ronnie. Sincere condolences to his beautiful wife Joan and lovely family. Rest in peace

I was fortunate to meet Ronnie and chat to him many years ago as we both queued, along with others, outside John O'Reilly's butcher shop in Mount Merrion. We were both there to collect our respective Christmas orders. We had a great chat that lives long in my memory. He was a true gentleman and will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends.

May Ronnie rest in peace.

A wonderful family man who was always interested and had time for others. He and Joan were really great fun to be around and engaged with their children’s friends in a way that was unique in the 70’s.
